  • "my mind feels like a busy office building" with Athena Monet

    22/07/2023 Duración: 01h53min

This week I had a conversation with Athena Monet, a former architect--she left both her job and the city to move near the ocean. It’s there where she became an author of the book Leave With Love and started her practice as a shaman helping people through life transitions. She’s also a mother of five, so in this conversation we covered her perspective around productivity which includes both permission and integration. As well as how she got into the work she does now after the death of her mother, why transitions like divorces, breakups, and moves are so fertile for personal growth, beauty and body image, and much more. • Leaving Instagram with Amelia Hruby, PhD, Host of Off The Grid & Founder of Softer Sounds Studio

    07/07/2023 Duración: 01h24min

This week I spoke to writer and podcaster Amelia Hruby. She’s also the author of the book Fifty Feminist Mantras. In this conversation we primarily focus on one aspect of her work, the topic of her show: Off the Grid: Leaving Social Media Without Losing All Your Clients. We discuss her experience of leaving social media and the feelings that come with navigating Instagram both personally and professionally. She shares how the boundaries she set up for herself failed her and how the pros of leaving Instagram outweighed the cons. We unpack the nuances of the social capital of instagram, parasocial relationships on it, how our use of it evolved since we first got it, and the emotions tied up in using it socially. We spent so much time on this topic, that she will be back for part two where we will focus on podcasting, from what makes a good conversation to where she sees the future of the industry and  more.Show Notes:- Our newsletter to get show notes + more.- Instgram me: @letitouttt or I'm @katiedalebout- A f

This week is a clip from an interview I did earlier this year on Andi Eaton Alleman's podcast.  In this episode, we discuss: how our tiny decisions shape us, cultivating friendships as adults, "middles" in relationships, failure and why success teaches us nothing, procrastinating out of fear and overwhelm rather than laziness, "protecting yourself from your own mind," perception, and more. • "Queering in Friendships": Rae McDaniel, Sex Therapist & Author of Gender Magic Returns

    10/06/2023 Duración: 01h03min

This week Rae McDaniel is back. Rae is a non-binary gender and sex therapist who works primarily with transgender/non-binary/questioning folks transitioning their gender identity. We talk about how everybody has an opportunity to look at their gender identity and decide how they want to express it to see they want to present themselves. You might remember from our last episode they were writing a book. It's out now and called: Gender Magic—I read an early copy and loved it. We covered some of my favorite parts like how they see gender as a galaxy, human centered design thinking, how they approach decision making, naming fear rather than ignoring it, evolving personal style and the importance of kinship through “queering” intimacy in friendships, and much more. • Mindful Space Design: Anjie Cho Returns

    27/05/2023 Duración: 01h29min

You may remember Anjie from her several other appearances here over the years, most recently, the in-person feng shui consulting session she did for me in my apartment. This time, in her fifth appearance on this podcast, we give some updates from making the adjustments she suggested on our last episode, plus we talk about her new book, some factors she can pinpoint that impacted her career success, and I took some questions from others including space and home adjustments for relationships, and how to adjust and compromise when merging styles when moving in with a new partner. And the question she gets most often from couples: what to do when one person values consistency and familiarity and the other loves novelty and moving around furniture. Since 1999, Anjie has been designing spaces informed by the ancient practice of feng shui and tailored to each individual’s needs, which you’ll get a taste of in this. She’s been featured everywhere from The New York Times to Domino Magazine; she’s a New York State regi

This week I spoke with Sam Burton. He’s an artist originally from Utah now living in my neighborhood in LA.  Sam came over a few weeks ago and we drank tea and talked about everything from how he began playing music, to how he approaches collaboration, craft, and creativity. After spending time studying Jungian psychology, he began reading tarot for himself and others. We spoke about how that impacts his songwriting as well as dream work, typology and Myers-Briggs. He’s candid about how “perfection bubbles” burst, the value of connection, and how constructive feedback given well has shaped his sound. We get into what he’s learned about sustaining a career in music, touring, maintaining a beginner's mind,  external validation and criticism,  his thoughts on love, nature, friendship, the music that shaped him, and more. I especially loved this one, Sam is deeply introspective, humble, easy to talk to, and wise. 01/04/2023 Duración: 01h36min

This week I spoke with Michelle and Wallis, hosts of The Twelfth House and Good For U(?) podcasts. They had me on a few months ago and we had such a great conversation that I asked if we could talk more on this one. Michelle and I have been friends for ages, she’s the founder of Holisticism. Wallis joined the team a few years ago, and she, like Michelle, is so smart and cool as you’ll hear. We talk about the beginning days of Holisticism, a space that bridges the gap between the mystic and the realistic to make well-being more accessible to more people. We covered how it has expanded, including how they’ve built their team, advice for management, hiring, non-coercive marketing, failure, curation vs creation, prioritization as “squiggly brained" people, and podcasting as a medium (they both used the Podcast Kit to start their shows). And then we get into regret, string theory, breakups, collapsing timelines, undefined friendships, and much more. Let us know if you listen. Show Notes:- The Podcast Kit that we t

  • What You Run From Chases You with Danielle LaPorte

    18/03/2023 Duración: 01h21min

Danielle LaPorte is an author and poet living in Vancouver, Canada. I’ve been reading her books for years and this is her second time on the podcast--this time we spoke over zoom a few weeks ago about what she’s been learning lately. She has a way of articulating esoteric concepts in a way that goes down real easy for me, always has. This time we got into: how the only way out is through, self help exhaustion and how we don’t need to fix ourselves, how non-duality is a creative act, self forgiveness vs self discipline, pivoting or making a change at the last minute, having the courage to make what she calls the 11th hour change, the way I discovered her in 2013 and her memory of that, cycling and syncing with the moon, what she loves and hates when being interviewed, Krishnamurti on “discipline is a tool that numbs the mind,” on overworking, taking on too many projects, having to stay up late and eat crackers for dinner, her thoughts on time, what she calls tyrant time vs power time, and how she bends time, h

  • Cale remembers his thoughts: musician Cale Tyson on rehab, recovery & our neighborhood feeling like high school...

    10/03/2023 Duración: 01h16min

Cale Tyson is a musician originally from Texas, now living in my neighborhood in LA. He came by and we talked in my kitchen about our neighborhood feeling like high school, what he was like in high school, self-mythologizing an image, craving validation in projects (and beyond), and being allergic to earnestness…all before getting into his wild story of going to rehab, getting sober, and what got him to that point with his trademark combo of self-deprecation and earnest humor. His new book, "Some Memories Are Only Thoughts”, just came out. We talk about that too as well as writing, sharing our work, and cringing at the process of it all. He’s a real gentle, sweet guy who makes me laugh and surprised me with a bunch of wisdom in this. And I surprised him with a few questions from his friends. 08/03/2023 Duración: 01h16min

This week is the third and final part of my conversation with hair stylist Ryann Bosetti. If you listened to the last two episodes you know she’s one of my favorite people to talk to so I wasn’t surprised we recorded for over three hours. I broke up that conversation into the last two episodes, where we talked about everything from how she got scouted to model at age 19 to her mystical thoughts on finding love in her late thirties to how she looks at her life through the lens of a fairy tale. If we look at her life from that storybook perspective, then this third episode is the chapter about a big, bad, wild situation that happened to her a few years ago. Recorded on a separate day, in this part Ryann shares the bad thing that happened to her, what she learned from that terrible time, how she healed from the tender spot she was left in, and how she now helps others as a result of her experience. Show Notes:- Listen to part 1 and part 2 of my conversation with Ryann-No sponsor this week--instead please conside

    11/02/2023 Duración: 01h45min

This week I spoke with author Mary Jelkovsky. Mary asked me on her podcast a couple months ago and when we recorded that interview we recorded one for Let It Out too. In the first half of this episode, Mary and I talk about how our difference in age impacts how we each use social media and technology, including how at only 16 she became an influencer as a fitness model, which led her to disordered eating, into recovery, and eventually to the work she’s doing now to help women accept their bodies and let go of food and body obsession. She’s written a best-selling book and accompanying journal, and over the past 5 years, she's been featured in TEDx, Teen Vogue, Shape, and Health Magazine. 21/12/2022 Duración: 17min

I’m sharing a special preview of a podcast I’ve been loving for years, Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso, from Pushkin Industries. Talk Easy is a weekly interview podcast, where writer Sam Fragoso invites actors, writers, activists, and musicians to come to the table and speak from the heart in ways you probably haven't heard from them before. Driven by curiosity, he’s had revealing conversations with everyone from Ethan Hawke to Cate Blanchett to Pedro Pascal to Questlove. In this preview, he sits down with actor, writer, and director Lake Bell, who shares her path to creating Inside Voice, her new audiobook. She describes growing up in Manhattan in the 80s, chronicling the world around her by tape recorder, and capturing those experiences into her 2013 film, "In a World..." And she shares how her voice has transformed in the past decade, the phenomenon of the 'sexy baby voice,' and the characters she hopes to discover in years to come.
