Many tend to think of Jesus as the ultimate pacifist; never one to rock the boat or call people out. Nothing could be further from the truth. In Luke 19:45-20:8, we see Jesus fashion his own whip and drive out the corrupt money changers from the temple, because they had taken the House of God, which was intended for prayer, and turned into a den of thieves, intent on nothing more than robbing people who desired to worship God. As Elijah is used by God to Demonstrate God's strength and faithfulness to the evil prophets and king, He is thrust into an incredible victory where the false God is shown to be impotent to do anything, and the living God is show to be all-powerful and true. But as is so often the case, Elijah moves from the mountain-top experience of Victory, into the valleys of despair, as he flees in fear, and wrestles with doubt and his own self-pity.
