    20/07/2017 Duración: 38min

Today, I’m chatting with singer, songwriter, Maya. Maya started her musical career as a child, improvising blues on stage with her dad at the tender age of 11. Her current style is electric jazz, and you’ll get a taste of just what that means at the end of the show. During our time together, Maya shares her experience of being on The Voice, Australia, and what it taught her about the music industry and about performing. She also tells us why she recommends other artist go on shows, such as the voice, and at what stages in an artist’s career she feels these types of shows would be most beneficial. We talk social media, and the reasons why she doesn’t place too much emphasis on it. Maya takes us through her lyric and song writing process. We talk about booking gigs, and how she goes about it. And she has some great advice for artists who are just starting to pursue their careers full time. • Ep. 37: Amy Crosby - Singer, Front Woman

    06/07/2017 Duración: 40min

Today I have the pleasure of chatting with Amy Crosby, of the band Shitting Glitter. Yes, you heard me right, Shitting Glitter. Her band was part of the LA music scene for years, and now she is firmly rooted in Long Beach (just south of LA), which she says is a very supportive community for artists of all genres. As an artist who has been at it for years, Amy gives us insight into the incarnations of a musician and her band. How band mates have come and gone (not from her life, but from the band), and how she’s come to the conclusion that it’s best to play with professional musicians that she brings into her band, rather than people who she relates to every day. As of late, Shitting Glitter was on a little break, and in that time Amy’s been painting. She’s gone from someone who had never painted to someone who’s painted over 200 paintings in two years, and who’s work is showing in a gallery! And now, Amy’s back in the music scene, and her latest project, the Nasty Woman Concert Series, is happening this Satur

  • Ep. 36: Yumi Sakugawa - Comic Book Artist, Author

Today I’m chatting with comic book artist and author, Yumi Sakugawa. And her comics! Yumi writes and draws feelings…feelings that we’ve all experienced. Her stories spring up around these deep truths, and I think that’s why, at least for me, once I started reading her work, I craved more. It’s like Yumi just gets me. :) She puts the human experience on paper. And in talking with her here on the show, and getting a glimpse into how she creates, I understand why her words and drawings evoke that sense of familiarity wrapped up in something that is just so magical. We talk books, comics, zines, traditional publishing, self publishing, tools of the trade, inspiration, and really, so much more! I’m super excited to share wit

  • Ep. 35: Shelley Segal - Singer, Songwriter

    25/05/2017 Duración: 49min

As artists, we can all agree that whatever we’re passionate about in life influences our work. It’s what our art is based on, really. Today's guest's story illustrates this point beautifully. I'm delighted to be chatting with singer, songwriter, Shelley Segal. Now, a lot of us are taught not to talk about religion or politics in polite company. Well, one of those topics comes up in today’s episode. And I’m going to say a word now, that I’ll admit, as someone who was raised in the Christian faith, has always made me a little uncomfortable. The word is Atheism. My guest today, has been called the “pin-up girl for the Atheist movement”. And I have to tell you, that her genuine caring for all people, just the love for humanity you can feel when you’re talking with her...well, I don't know what I expected exactly, or was taught to believe about Atheists. She graciously accepted my invitation to come back on, and today we’re giving calligraphy the attention it deserves. From friends commenting on her pretty handwriting, to taking it to the next level by taking a calligraphy class, to how she sensed progress starting to happen, Nariné takes us on her continuing journey in calligraphy.
