    10/12/2023 Duración: 34min

The Hebrew prophets all told of the "Expected One" who was to come: the Messiah. • Gospel Mission | Giving for the Gospel

    28/11/2023 Duración: 36min

While Paul meditates on Christian spirituality that has gone wrong; dependence on the flesh rather than Christ, the pursuit of personal righteousness rather than faith in Christ, rejection of the cross rather than the embrace of the cruciform life. For Paul - Christ was not just a new friend or deity he picked up to give his life added value. His relationship with Christ became an all-consuming passion. From his perspective: I have not reached the finish line, but I have learned not to look back. The mission of the gospel will move forward, but it will need sacrificial partners, who will give resources, to contribute to the wider gospel mission.  Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpoint Find Us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/ Find Us on Facebook ►https://www.facebook.com/southviewchurch

  • Gospel Citizens | Two Models of Humility & Obedience

    30/10/2023 Duración: 38min

The first chapter focused on Paul's situation. While Paul addresses the uncertainty of his fate, he admits that he is full of thanksgiving, hope, and joy, because the gospel is spreading unabated, and it has been propelled by his chains. Paul was focused on giving his readers confidence and hope in the unstoppable gospel. Paul now challenges the Philippians not to shrink back in intimidation and hesitation, but to move forward in hope and joy, working together as one community in the good fight of faith. He calls them to fearless obedience to the gospel, but he first affirms the necessity of humility and unity, in which Christ is our perfect example. He will go on to give further examples of Christlike humility, self-sacrifice, and cooperation and obedience in view of the gospel mission.   Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpoint Find Us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/ Find Us on Facebook ►https://www.facebook.com/southviewchurch

  • Unstoppable Gospel | Death is Gain, Life is Christ

    02/10/2023 Duración: 29min

Paul is locked up in prison facing an uncertain future and there are some people around him who are stirring up trouble, trying to jeopardize Paul's life and ministry. Combine this with the challenges facing the believers in Philippi, and the Philippians might have wondered - how is the gospel "good news" for us? Is this religion a blessing or a curse? Were we wrong to put our faith in the apostle Paul, seemingly a powerful leader, and now a lowly prisoner? Perhaps they thought have we suffered so much for nothing? Paul did not hesitate to respond with boldness and confidence - not only has this situation not impeded his mission; it has actually propelled it. Why? Because Paul believed the gospel of Jesus Christ is an unstoppable force. So in a way, Paul relishes when he faces an obstacle, because he knows God will find a way through it (even if the way is hard).    Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpoint Find Us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/ Find Us on Fa

  • Moses the Hesitant Leader | Transfigured

    05/09/2023 Duración: 38min

The life of Moses is an epic story of someone who walks with God through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over the course of a lifetime. In the life of Moses we learn about faith, doubt, calling, leadership and the heart of God. One Bible scholar notes how the life of Moses presents a series of striking antitheses: “He was the child of a slave, and the son of a queen. He was born in a hut, and lived in a palace. He inherited poverty, and enjoyed unlimited wealth. He was backward in speech, and talked with God. He was the giver of the Law, and the forerunner of Grace. He died alone on Mount Moab, and appeared with Christ in Judea. No man assisted at his funeral, yet God buried him.” The history of such a life is well worth attention, and the principles which underlie its antitheses, invite us to a considered study of it in this teaching series.   Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpoint Find Us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/ Find Us on Facebook ►ht

  • While We Wait | Anything But That, Lord!

    29/07/2023 Duración: 45min

As we move into this summer at Southview, we are in a season of transition: between what has been and what is yet to be. Each of us walks through seasons like this in our personal lives as well - times that can feel like “waiting places,” times that are “in-between.” One of the terms for these seasons of transition between one stage and the next is “Liminality.” So what do God’s people do in liminal times like these? How do we walk through "in-between" seasons in our lives? Because Scripture seems to shout that God does His best work in us while we wait. Join us on a journey through the Scriptures, discovering how our spiritual ancestors navigated liminal times, as we look to biblical truths for how we live in our own times of waiting.
