Thumpcast With Jeff & Dave

The guys are back and discussing Christmas, their trip to Mexico, and the issue of complexity.

The guys are back for one more go around this year.  We start off talking about the ridiculousness in Christianity sometimes.  Jeff reads some comments a writer made a Christian TV Show about President-Elect Trump being the new John the Baptist.  We also talk family and Christmas traditions and our favorite Christmas food.  We close off the show talking the passing of Jeff's Grandmother and legacy she has left behind.

This week we talk a little about the election results and a lot about sharing your faith without being a jerk. 

At the risk of losing our jobs (HA!), we finally get political.  We discuss the disturbing trend of nationalism in American Christianity and Christians who put their hope in political parties and not God.  We also talk about how the stand offish and combative posture of American Christians when it comes to politics is hurting our ability to be lights to the world.  Come on, come all, we look forward to your hate mail.

This week Jeff and Dave talk about Perry Noble.  Noble is a minister in South Carolina that started NewSpring Church and was recently let go for alcohol abuse.  Perry has been extremely open about his failings and his healing process.  This week he released a blog that outlined the specific mistakes he made that led to the loss of his job and what he is doing to correct the course his life is on.  The guys talk about how they can relate to everything Noble is struggling with and how they have struggled with many of the same things.

This ThumpCast the guys take some time to thank the Pastor's who have greatly influenced their lives and what they did that left a legacy for each of them.    

This week the guys talk about your biological family versus the Family of God.  They discuss a re recent article from Christianity Today (that can be read here: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2016/august-web-only/if-our-families-are-more-important-than-our-churches-we-nee.html) and what it means for churches.  We then talk about a couple fo events we've done in the past two weeks and how they relate to the importance of the Family of God.

This week the guys have part two of their conversation with Rob Shoaff and this time they focus on church leadership and discipleship.    

This week the guys talk to Rob Shoaff.  Rob is a Missionary in Haiti where he heads up the English Department at Sonlight Academy's Bible College.  Rob talks about his faith journey, tells a crazy story about his time working with Muslims in Spain, and how his family ended up in Haiti.  Strap in for a great story of faith and the willingness to say "Yes" when God thumps you on the head.

This week Jeff and Dave talk about their inner nerd for awhile and the nerdiest thing about themselves.  Then they not-so-subtley transition into what the podcast is actually about- hearing from God!  They discuss the best way to hear from God- prayer!  It's another can't miss episode of the ThumpCast!

The ThumpCast is back from our summer break!  This week we talk about where we were, the ministry of reconciliation, having a church that looks like your community, and Dangerous Wonder!

This week Jeff and Dave talk about family and how God uses our families to "thump" us and give us direction and insight.  We also talk about what you always wanted and never got, REM, and we know that answer to "Does Jeff's Mom listen?"

This week Jeff and Dave are free from the shackles of a guests and talk everything from Aerosmith to the Presidential election to Soft Serve ice cream!  Come join the fun!

This week's the guys are joined by Dan Roberts from Western Buckeye Christian Camp.  Dan tells us his story about how he came to faith and how he arrived at Western Buckeye.  We talk about our camp specifically, camp ministry, and a variety of other things related camp ministry.

This week the guys welcome the Mayor of our town Piqua, Ohio Kazy Hinds!  Kazy is a Pastor, Wife, Daughter, Mom, and awesome lady!  She has a pretty amazing story of how God really got into her life and led her into Ministry and into her role now as a Mayor.  If you expecting hard hitting questions about street paving and politics this one is not for you, it's all about her faith and the role it has played in her life.

In an extra special episode this week Jeff and Dave look back at the past!  We talk about how we are getting close to 1,000 downloads and the stories we have heard over the past 21 episodes!

David Kaiser from Mosaic Ministries join us to discuss some big time thumps from God.  We talk about poverty, treating causes rather than the symptoms, and the role of the Gospel in all that mess.  We also talk about what Mosaic is currently doing, their Baby U ministry, and everything they offer to put people in a pipeline of being self sufficient.

This week the guys welcome Jared Lacey from the local band Mayfly.  They talk about the role God plays in his music and his band, where the lyrics come from, and how God has shaped his life.  We also debut our new This or That segment!

This week it's just Jeff and Dave.  They discuss Christmas versus Easter, bloody eggs, and which holiday is more stressful.  They also discuss being a consumer in the family versus being a contributor to the family and that inviting someone to Easter services is really an investment you are making in that person.  That discussion leads into leadership, imitation, and accountability.  Should be the most thought provoking 40 minutes of your day!  Enjoy!
