  • Canadian Angling Legend Bob Izumi - S2 E1

    08/06/2017 Duración: 34min

I've looked up to Bob Izumi since I was a child. His show inspired my imagination, and I often dreamed of the fish I'd catch next time I was up at the cottage or on a trip to somewhere new. When I was at home though, I could always count on a weekly dose of Bob Izumi's Real Fishing Show. We don't always have the chance to meet the people who inspire us, but as chance would have it, Bob and I connected and sat down to share his story. We'll talk about the early days and the impact his father had on tournament fishing in Ontario, and about Bob's early career. No chat would be complete without talking about the veritable army of Izumi's who are out there making their impact on the fishing industry. Sit back and enjoy our chat with the host of one of the longest running syndicated television shows in Canada: Bob Izumi.    Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on iTunes Episode Resources: Bob Izumi's Real Fishin: R

  • More with Facts of Fishing's Dave Mercer - S1 E52

    01/06/2017 Duración: 29min

I've been called many things, but Dave Mercer comparing me to Oprah and Sally Jessy Raphael has got to be one of the strangest. When I got the chance to connect with Dave, I expected a great high-energy chat, but it was great getting to see the more thoughtful side of the man. In our last episode, Dave talked about his daughter's diagnosis of autism, something he really hadn't talked about before this interview. He shared some sage advice about keeping perspective and putting on your game face every day, and about how desire and dedication are key to achieving your goals. In part 3, we get exactly the Dave everyone expected: a fantastic story-telling, telling wild tales. Dave was so kind as to indulge me and share my very favorite story; one that appears in his book: 135 Secrets Fish Don't Want You To Know. You may know the "Bait Bucket" story, and it's one the poor guy has probably told a hundred times, but Dave tells it again for us, because that's the kind of guy he is. I can't imagine a higher note t

  • Bassmaster Elite Emcee Dave Mercer - S1 E51

    25/05/2017 Duración: 35min

Dave Mercer is a man I admire and respect on so many levels. First, he's a man of the people, and while he has a giant personality, he has only the smallest measure of ego. As I spoke with Dave and he revealed more and more of his personal life, and many of his viewpoints on the industry and those trying to carve their niche in it, my respect grew. Dave has not only been one of the most fascinating and lively guests we've had to date, he's also been a big supporter of this show. Were it not for Dave talking up this show, we'd have never had the privilege of sharing the stories of Brandon Palaniuk and Mark Zona. In this episode, Dave and I tackle some big topics like how day after day he puts on his gameface; there are no sick days or calling it in when you are the voice of the Bassmaster Elite Series. Dave tells us a little bit about some of the folks that are doing it right, and who to watch: Cooper Gallant and Aaron Weibe make his short list. We wrap up this week's show with Dave giving his version of th

  • Dave Mercer from Facts of Fishing - S1 E50

    18/05/2017 Duración: 26min

We've had some incredible guest this year, and our final guest of season one is one of the most recognizable in the entire industry. As a matter of fact, you can draw a line from some of our best guests in season one to this man: Bassmaster Elite Series Emcee and Host of Facts of Fishing, Dave Mercer. I find myself at a loss for words trying to describe this show. It's a show packed with stories about Dave himself, and many of his friends in the industry. It's as high energy and frantic as you'd expect from Dave, and I basically hold on tight in the hopes that I'm not washed away in the tidal wave of enthusiasm. We pull no punches, and Dave's brilliant brand of humour comes out in every segment. We'll weave in and out of topics in a beauty tapestry of chaos; we get Dave's version of the walleye stealing "Big" Jim McLaughlin's fishing rod off the back of the boat. To cap it all off, Dave indulges me by telling my favorite story with a moral: The Bait Bucket Story. But, you'll have to listen to all three act

  • Canadian Fishing Icon "Big" Jim McLaughlin - S1 E49

    11/05/2017 Duración: 30min

Of all the Big Jim's out there, Jim McLaughlin is the biggiest... Jim is a true man of the people, and always has time to teach a new angler, take a picture with a new friend, and even share his daily routine on social media with those follow him. In just a short time of chatting I found the familiarity of how we talked to be comforting, like talking fishing with an old friend. But, that's Big Jim; he is just that kind of guy. We meandered through talking about his career angling, and a very serious message about preventative checkups with your doctor; heck we even chatted about the new vacuum Jim bought recently, and his new home. In this episode, we right the ship and just talk fishing. Jim knows his stuff, and shares with us a lot about his work with Shimano, and spares some time to tell us about the fine work of past guest Dr. Bruce Tufts. Tune in for a great big of fish talk from a man who sure can talk.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Ra

  • "Big" Jim McLaughlin of Just Fishing with - S1 E48

    04/05/2017 Duración: 29min

For folks who grew up in Ontario, there is probably no more well known fishing figure than "Big" Jim McLaughlin. He's not "on the TV" famous, but rather a legendary tournament angler, and huge ambassador not only for Shimano, but for the sport of fishing in Canada as a whole. In Ontario at least, you don't have to go far to meet this gentle giant. Jim spends a great deal of his time speaking to clubs, and appearing at trade shows; he's no spring chicken, but "Big" Jim makes a regular pilgrimage from small town Eastern Ontario to wherever he's speaking next. You've got a unique opportunity to witness my first ever talk with Jim. I'd never met him, and admittedly, didn't know as much about him as I probably should have. However, you'll quickly see what kind of person Jim is by how casually he speaks, and how eagerly he shares his personal life with us. You'll find much of this episode is less about fishing, and more about the man himself, and that's the way we like to tell stories. It took little prompting t

  • High School Team Angler Trent Lawson - S1 E47

    27/04/2017 Duración: 39min

For the first time we've got a junior angler on the show. Trent Lawson hails from North Carolina, and fishes local tournaments and with a highschool team out of Patrick County Virginia. We've had pros at the highest level of the sport on the show, so it only makes sense to share the stories of the young folks out there who are working up through the ranks to live the dream. Trent, and his partner Jo, recently qualified for the state championship in a BASS sanctioned tournament; they win big there, and it's on to Nationals. I caught up with Trent first a few months ago; well before he and partner Jo placed second in the qualifier for the state championship. Well, I caught up to him again right before the state championship to get an update on his lead up to the event. Some foul weather has made the tournament outlook tough, but Trent and partner will do their best to meet the challenge. We're proud to share with you the story of a young man and his unlikely partner as he explores his passion: Sport Fishin

  • Angler and Physiologist Dr. Bruce Tufts from Tufts Lab - S1 E46

    20/04/2017 Duración: 30min

Dr. Bruce Tufts is one of the most fascinating guests we've had on the show to date; and that's saying a lot considering some of the folks we've talked to. This week, is one of my favorite shows, for the love of science and understanding the impact we as anglers have on the environment we relax in. We'll start the conversation with a look at the work Bruce and team have been doing in the Bay of Quinte. Bruce shares with us some of the more important findings they've had in their time tagging and tracking fish in tournaments and casual fishing.  This leads us into a discussion about the necessity of returning large breeding fish back into the fishery to ensure future resources. I've asked other guests before, but we get some great answers from Bruce about the impact of commercial and recreational fishing on such bodies of water as Lake Nipissing and Lake Scugog. While these are Ontario Canada lakes, the message Bruce sends is clear: We're often walking that razor's edge between a thriving fishery and a de

  • Doctor Bruce Tufts from Queen's University Fisheries Conservation Lab - S1 E45

    13/04/2017 Duración: 30min

Doctor Bruce Tufts is not a household name. You won't see this man splattered across the front page of Bassmaster, nor will you see him in that publication. However, he is probably contributing more for the sport of fishing than we will ever know. Bruce is a professor at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. This man heads up the Fisheries Conservation Lab there, and is one of the most well known and well respected figures in Canadian sport fishing. Bruce was kind enough to take some time out of his hectic schedule to talk fish with us. Not just talk fish, but to really dig in and explain a great deal about his work, that of his students, and what the work he does really means to us anglers. We're going to talk about invasive species, and take a long look at the impact of tournament fishing, and throw in a little bit of time on the great debate about fishing during the spawn. He's not your average guest, and only the second fisheries biologist and physiologist to join us on the show, so buckle u

  • Florida Angler and Scott Martin Challenge Competitor Mikey Balzz - S1 E44

    06/04/2017 Duración: 36min

Our guest Michael Meisenheimer aka Mikey Balzz shares with us some of the most candid and thoughtful advice any of our previous guests have shared. We kick off the conversation narrowing down Mikey's stomping grounds, which evolves into a bigger picture discussion about Florida waterways, bass behaviour, and the parallels between fishing bass in Ontario and Florida. Assuming you've spent any time in Florida, you're probably well aware of how the weather can change at the drop of a hat. Mikey and I share a good laugh over the crazy weather, and how just about everything in Florida has it's way of trying to kill you. It was a pleasure chatting with someone who takes his fishing seriously, but himself so casually. He's a big personality, with an easy going manner, and a solid dose of humility.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on iTunes Episode Resources: Follow Mikey on Twitter: @MikeyBalzz Check out Mik

  • Mikey Balzz of Mikey Balzz Fishing YouTube Channel - S1 E43

    30/03/2017 Duración: 30min

The man himself from Mikey Balzz Fishing is on the show this week and next! One could probably say that for many, Lake Okeechobee is a Mecca of bass fishing. For those who don't live there, it's a guaranteed 'bucket list' destination for massive bass. It's a regular stop on the BASS tour, and many folks make their home there just to be close to such a vibrant fishery. This week's guest is one of those folks. Originally from Wisconsin, Mikey Balzz makes his home in Florida now, and takes full advantage of having the Big O in his back yard. We catch up with Mikey and chat about his adventure competing on the Scott Martin challenge; a show I had just recently watched after meeting Mikey. The conversation focuses heavily on the production side of fishing shows, and Mikey has an incredible amount of insight into creating high quality content. We'll end the first half of the show discussing the amazing amount of information you can capture and learn from just by recording your fishing sessions and re-watching th

  • Mark Zona from Bassmaster Live and ZAFS - S1 E42

    23/03/2017 Duración: 29min

We continue our talk with Mark Zona this week. Thanks to our friend Dave Mercer, we got the inside track on a few stories that made for some great conversation. The episode kicks off with a funny question about Mark's part in cementing Dave Mercer as the emcee for the Bassmaster Elite Series, including the advice that Mark gave about handling the pressures that come with the territory. Mark's favorite lesson for those in the spotlight: Stay away from Social Media. He says this tongue in cheek, but there's some underlying truth to his words. The conversation turns to World's Greatest Fishing show and Zona's Awesome Fishing Show; this includes a few brilliant stories about shooting the show, including Mike Iaconelli's famous fall into the water. We'll get the inside scoop on Zona's Awesome Fishing Show LIVE, and close off the conversation with a few great Zona stories.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on i

  • Mark Zona host of Zona's Awesome Fishing Show - S1 E41

    16/03/2017 Duración: 26min

Mark Zona and pal Greg Hackney did something that no one has done before: A live fishing show broadcast uncut and uncensored. On March 14th 2017, Mark and Greg went live from Grosse Savanne in Louisiana to share with us four solid hours of fishing, mirth, and merriment. We caught up with Mark mere weeks before this big event, and got the chance to sit down with the man and get to know him better. As we typically do, we learn about Mark's early years, and how he got into fishing. We'll follow Mark from the Chicago suburbs, rural Michigan, to "god's country" Indiana where he makes his home today. Mark tells us about his days fishing tournaments (and winning them), selling boats for Ranger, and how he fell into a fantastic career when ESPN came calling. We'll wrap up this episode talking about the BASS organization and the man behind it's transformation.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on iTunes Episode R

  • Brandon Palaniuk recaps Elite Series event on Okeechobee - S1 E40

    09/03/2017 Duración: 28min

We had a chance to catch a recap of Cherokee, discuss the preparation that goes into the next event at Okeechobee, and this week we've got Brandon Palaniuk back on the show to let us see the Elite Series event on Okeechobee through his eyes. Brandon relates his experiences in practice, and talks about the conditions in the area, including recent events that may have affected the area. We take a look at what Brandon's game plan was, and how he adapted when it wasn't coming together. Brandon admittedly avoids "fishing in a crowd" and we speculate on how that may have affected his game plan. We transition into the event itself, and how Thursday and Friday inevitably saw Brandon outside of the cut for the rest of the weekend. We get a good look at the thought process of an Elite Series angler who has to change their game plan after a tough first day. Unfortunately for Brandon, disaster strikes on Friday, and we find out what happened. Hang in there for Brandon's look at the next big show: The Bassmaster Clas

  • Brandon Palaniuk prepares for Lake Okeechobee - S1 E39

    02/03/2017 Duración: 22min

We have had an excellent opportunity to get a recap on not only the Lake Cherokee event, but we've managed to capture a look at the preparation that goes into the following event at Lake Okeechobee courtesy of Brandon Palaniuk. Brandon gives us some insight into past event wins at Bull Shoals and the redemption that came with the big win at St. Lawrence River following the unfortunate disqualification at the previous event. We will then take a deep dive into the event a Okeechobee and Brandon's thoughts leading up to the event. Just to keep things light and fun, we have a little bit of Q & A with Brandon including a non-fishing question that goes completely off the tracks.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on iTunes Episode Resources: Follow Brandon on Twitter: @BrandonPalaniuk Like Brandon on Facebook: Brandon Palaniuk BMP Fishing: BMPFishing.com Bassmaster Article: Story vs. Score Outdoor Life Arti

  • Bassmaster Elite Series Pro Brandon Palaniuk - S1 E38

    22/02/2017 Duración: 28min

The One More Cast Show takes a big stride forward with our first ever Bassmaster Elite Series guest. We've got Brandon Palaniuk taking some time out of his hectic schedule to share his story with us over the course of the next two episodes. We're fortunate to have Brandon on the show; our mutual friend Dave Mercer, Emcee for the Bassmaster Elite Series, told Brandon about the show and he was eager to join us. The chat is really fun with Brandon, who is a sharp guy, and has a great sense of humor. Make no mistake, Brandon is one of the most serious guys out there when it comes to fishing, and you can tell he has the heart of a true competitor. A self described open book, Brandon is just that... Open and honest, and was more impressed than concerned when our chat would intersect with his personal life.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTunes: One More Cast on iTunes Episode Resources: Follow Brandon on Twitter: @BrandonPalaniu

  • Fishing Adventures with Patrick Walsh from Outdoor Canada - S1 E37

    16/02/2017 Duración: 25min

This week Patrick Walsh and I discuss some of the beautiful places we've visited. From Atlantic Salmon in New Brunswick, to Mahi Mahi in the Dominican Republic, this episode has it all... We've covered outdoor writing already, which freed up our time to talk about our outdoor passion. I truly enjoyed discussing the "Behind the Scenes" work that goes into bringing Outdoor Canada to life, but you'll enjoy our look at all of the beautiful fishing destinations our world has to offer. • Patrick Walsh Outdoor Canada and Outdoor Canada West Editor-in-Chief - S1 E36

    09/02/2017 Duración: 27min

Continuing our look at the people who share the stories of the fishing industry, we have Patrick Walsh joining us on the show. Patrick is not only Editor-in-Chief for the Outdoor Canada magazines, but is also the Brand Manager for them as well. His reach extends beyond just the print magazine to the website as well. We get a little bit of history on Patrick, and how he came into the industry, and the serendipitous opportunity he had to assume the helm at Outdoor Canada. Patrick shares with me a little bit about Outdoor Canada itself, talks about contributors and what it takes to become a contributor, and the nuances of writing for print as compared to writing for the web. • Don 'DB' Barone on writing stories and The Tackle the Storm Foundation - S1 E35

    02/02/2017 Duración: 21min

Being a journalist of sorts, I truly enjoyed the chance to talk with a real pro like Don Barone. Despite usually being the interviewer, Don was very casual and comfortable to talk to, and was quite candid with some of his answers. In this episode, we'll chat a little more about how the game has changed in journalism as the internet has developed. News travels fast in the new world of information, but that is a place where a man like Don is separated from your typical columnist; you can't just google the story of "Joe the sewing machine repairman"; you have to sit down with Joe, let him tell his story, and you share that story with others. I ask Don to share some detail on his visit to the St. Croix rods factory, and the inspiration for his article on meeting "the people" at the information booth at the Bassmaster Classic. Lastly, Don bashfully tells us more about the Tackle The Storm foundation that he founded after a fashion with his friend Skeet Reese. Years later this not-for-profit charity is doing wel

  • Bassmaster Columnist Don DB Barone - S1 E34

    26/01/2017 Duración: 26min

It's not very often you get to seat a decorated writer on the wrong side of the table and interview them. Well, that's exactly what we've got for you in this episode. I sat down to chat with award winning writer Don 'DB' Barone, and it was nothing short of magic. It's intimidating interviewing a man who has literally interviewed every professional angler you can name, and counts many among his dearest friends, but for a self-professed "Northern Yankee Hippy" with a sordid past, he is the most down-to-earth unpretentious man you'd ever want to chat with. We talk about Don's early years as a Crime columnist, and how ESPN was instrumental in transitioning him into writing about the outdoors. Don shares some frank advice for those who are considering a career in writing. This is the first of four episodes focused on Outdoors writers, and it was truly a pleasure getting to chat with this man.   Listen on Stitcher: One More Cast on Stitcher Listen on TuneIn Radio: One More Cast on TuneIn Radio Subscribe on iTu
