It's that time of year again here in Dallas. In anticipation, I wanted to make the first mix I have ever done specifically for Pride. Normally with my mixes, I like to keep all the most as recent as possible. For this one -- being my first Pride-centric mix, I decided to break my own rules and sprinkle some older songs that always make me think of Pride. Some of these are even new remakes/remixes of older uplifting classics as well. I will say that I did not use any mix of a song I have used before. Since it's just so hot outside, I'm going to keep my ramblings brief. New dance releases have been somewhat slow since the last mix, but I finally felt like I had what I needed to do another one. Like I needed another excuse for another mix? Yes, it's my birthday... today. And yes, I made a mix for it. And yes, I'm even on vacation and posting this. Haha. So, I thought a birthday mix would be fun, but instead of just choosing a bunch of favorite dance songs from my collection, I needed to limit that down. So here is the rule... it had to be a mix that I added to my library in the last year of my life, but wasn't necessarily new when I did (save one, which I'll get to in a minute). Now, before some of you say, "I can't believe that you didn't have THAT song" or whatever, realize that most of these I already had some mix of, but for whatever reason these stayed under my radar. Be it because at the time, I had another mix I really favored, maybe heard before but my taste has changed a little, or -- heaven forbid -- totally didn't know existed. Ha. Wow... its July already and it definitely feels like it outside! Well, as if it wasn't hot enough, here is a new mix that will hopefully make you sweat. :-P Since I've been sharing these on Facebook, many have commented that they favor the harder mixes/parts of my mixes better. Since I will never give up my happy discoey songs, I'll just try to get to the more "peak-hour" music sooner in the mix. In addition, I have been tweaking the ClubChrisFM Sparkle FiltersTM®© somewhat. I think I've been driving the volume with somewhat of a lead foot, so that has been adjusted such that this mix may not sound as "loud" overall, but you should notice better dynamic contrast and clarity. You knew I wouldn't waste any time putting some of my favorite MJ dance remixes in a mix, would you? Now, I threw this together rather quickly, so please forgive all the level, technical, and mixing glitches. I did the best I could in a few hours, but I think you will enjoy it. Yes, some of these mixes are dated, but they seem to all work together. I used all remixes (since we all have the originals), save for one... my favorite MJ song. It shall not be altered. After finishing the Sun mix, I was definitely ready to dive into something darker and harder. Don't let the first part of this mix fool you -- it does start off somewhat smoother -- it is still not for the weak. I just had to ease you into it. Ha. I didn't comment on any specific tracks on the last mix (save Viola's song), but I do want to bring a few to your attention on this one. To start, there are a number of new remixes/remakes of oldies but goodies on here. I didn't plan it that way on purpose. If they were good at one point, there must have been a reason. I hope those that remember the originals will enjoy these new takes on them. I have been trying really hard to get this mix done before the Memorial holiday weekend, and, thanks today to a little birdie who provided me with a song I've been waiting on, it's here! Being a "Sun" mix, I tried to keep everything on this mix a little more light, happy, and/or uplifting. For those of you who like my more bubbly-discoey mixes, then you'll like this one. It's been a few months since I have done a mix and I have finally had time recently to get another one done. If your a fan of my typical, more bubble-gum types of mixes, this one is not for you. I wanted this mix to have a little more of a hard, circuity sound. It pays homage to Tony Moran, but there is also a shout to Deborah Cox (since she made her Texas performance debut at Purple in 2008) and to DJ Escape (who is on FIRE right now and will be spinning in Dallas over the Memorial weekend). Although the Rihanna song is a few years old, her label decided to release new mixes of it recently. I also wanted to include some Britney here, but honestly I'm already kinda over her three most recent singles and then this unofficial mix of Unusual You I've had for a few weeks came to mind.
