He must ask himself if it's worth holding onto them, or if he should begin to set boundaries and risk having his sons in his life to be seen in a light that he undoubtedly deserves. In this week’s SHAIR Recovery Coaching call, you’ll learn: How to identify negative patterns we’ve developed to cover up feelings of inadequacy. How to effectively set boundaries with family members. • SRC 004 - The Inner Critic - Reframing Negative Self-Talk

    21/07/2020 Duración: 01h05min

How do we combat the inner critic that tells us we’re no good? Negative self-talk is something we all have, and it’s one thing that prevents us from fulfilling our full potential. It’s in the moments of self-doubt, fear, and being uncomfortable with ourselves that we created self-soothing in the first place, and it’s in these moments we crave relief. If we’re not equipped with the proper tools, we can start to romance a drink, a drug or an unhealthy behavior. Even though we know it’s not good for us, when we give in the negative self-talk becomes louder and our inner critic becomes harsher. There’s a window of time in these moments where we can begin to pause, rethink, and reteach ourselves new habits to join the opposing forces of the internal battle inside of us, all while finding relief and self-soothing other ways.  Join Omar Pinto in this week’s SHAIR Recovery Coaching call as we ask hard questions, learn ways to shred the facade of the inner critic and empower ourselves to live out our full potential an

  • SP 280: Meredith Atwood - The Year of No Nonsense

    14/07/2020 Duración: 01h18min

With no higher power or 12-step work, Meredith Atwood white-knuckled sobriety. After substance abuse, suicide attempts, and binge eating issues, she had realization that she would be dead within a year, and made the decision to stop drinking cold turkey. Growing up in a religious cult, Meredith couldn’t subscribe to the thought of surrendering. After compensating for her behavior with triathlons and Ironman competitions, she came to the point where she had to sit with herself and begin to truly heal.  As a former attorney, Meredith Atwood is a podcaster, speaker, and author of The Year of No Nonsense, and Host of “The Same 24 Hours” podcast. She’s been featured in The Boston Globe, The New York Post, the Seattle Times, and recovery advocate and contributing writer for Psychology Today. Holding onto the belief that we all have our own personal brands of “no nonsense,” in this inspiring conversation, Meredith takes us through the exploration of getting out of the way of our own personal happiness.  “Many of us

  • SRC 003 - Setting Effective Boundaries with a Parent or Loved One

    07/07/2020 Duración: 53min

Setting effective boundaries is hard. In this week’s SHAIR recovery coaching call, we helped Brandi navigate boundaries with her Mother. It’s completely normal for all of us to expect our parents or loved ones to be loving people. However, when addiction, trauma, and other issues come into play, we can begin to feel responsible for our loved one's emotional state - fueling codependency. When this happens, many of us find ourselves in that all-or-nothing thinking. Do we sever the relationship for good, or give into unhealthy patterns? Once we do some healing on our end, there may be a middle ground we can learn to find. Setting effective boundaries gives individuals and family members the chance to get to know one another with mutual respect, form closer bonds, and continue to foster connection. Once we’re able to recognize that we’re not responsible for our loved one’s emotional state, we can begin to set effective boundaries by reframing our relationship, detaching with love, and getting support from those

  • SP 279: Amberly Lago - True Grit and Grace

    30/06/2020 Duración: 01h13min

At 38, Amberly Lago was a personal trainer, avid runner, and sponsored by Nike.  However, she never expected her life to turn upside down. Hit by an SUV, she underwent 34 surgeries to save her leg from amputation. Diagnosed with an incurable disease dubbed the “suicide disease” she lost her business, self-confidence, and dealing with chronic-pain in her leg quickly spiraled her into addiction.  Too scared to live, too scared to die, and a flicker of determination left, Amberly asked herself if she was going to sit back and play the victim or choose to be resilient and face unresolved trauma, past sexual abuse, and push forward to heal from chronic pain.  Today, Amberly Lago is a health and wellness coach, TEDx speaker, and a leading expert in the field of resilience and transformation. She is the best-selling author of “True Grit and Grace” and empowers people around the world by sharing how she turned a tragedy into triumph.  Through her book, coaching methods, and workshops she has curated unique tools to t

  • SRC 002 - Social Anxiety, Creative Outlets & Self-Awareness

    23/06/2020 Duración: 01h03min

On this week’s Recovery Coaching call we helped Barbara, Jill, and Frank. Barbara feels like she’s running on low-energy. Wanting to sleep a lot, she is having trouble finding motivation to participate in activities that are conducive to her recovery. However, when she partakes in her favorite craft, she feels more energized. The group helped Barbara come to the realization that our bodies communicate to us through emotions. If we’re frustrated in a situation, it’s our body's way of telling us the situation is no longer beneficial to our well-being and peace of mind. If we’re not energized, it is a good indicator that we need to focus our attention elsewhere. Bringing more self-awareness to our bodies, the group helped Barbara employ practical ways to let go of negative self-talk and put tools into place to shift her energy. The group also helped Jill. Newly sober, Jill feels like she can’t be herself in social situations. Going into something unknown can cause undue stress and anxiety, but there are a few wa

Detox after detox, and treatment center after treatment center, she continued to find herself in a state of relapse. Stating that rock bottom is a lie, Erica believes that it is always possible to go lower than your lowest point. Tumultuous relationships, and empty vodka bottles hid throughout her apartment defined her life, acting as both her tormentors and closest friends.  After waking up one day, Erica decided that she had enough. Reassessing her values and passions, she was able to transform her pain into purpose to help those in the same position she was once in and shares this inspiring and emotional story with us.  Today, Erica C. • SRC 001 - Boundaries, Accountability and Releasing Anger

    09/06/2020 Duración: 01h19s

There are multiple pathways to recovery, including recovery coaching. In our first Recovery Coaching call, Omar Pinto introduced us to his style of recovery coaching and the concepts behind it. By holding space for others, and using our intuition to guide us, we can help others address struggles, find accountability, and process uncomfortable feelings.  Today, we helped Tori begin to set effective boundaries with a friend. By taking part in self-care, setting effective boundaries can begin. The Recovery Coaching group held space for Tori by asking open-ended questions about her current situation and creating a sense of accountability and support by giving her self-care suggestions.  We also helped Valerie address accountability. Asking herself if she really wants to stay sober, her desire to drink has never been so strong, and she feels recovery is far out of reach. With limited meetings and accountability, Valerie is faced with the fearful decision to walk the unknown path of a sober life. However, with guid
