  • A Stock Aitken and Waterman Christmas

    20/12/2020 Duración: 26min

aka Alan Partridge. Nothing says Christmas nostalgia like Stock Aitken and Waterman. Although it seems that their Christmas output is limited. But that doesn't stop Spence trying to put together the ultimate SAW Christmas playlist. Yes it might end up being contrived, but it's 100% pop perfection. Join Andy and Spence on their walk through a country park and hear them decend in to jokes good/bad enough to make their kids cringe; just like the tunes on Andy's Alan Partridge playlist. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Christmas Capers 2018

    15/12/2020 Duración: 26min

Nostalgia - check. Batman - check. Bond - check. Songs - check. Fun - check.  It can only mean one thing: Soldiers of Hell Christmas Special 2018. Like all good festive specials we invite friends round - in this case Peter Marshall of The Lomos fame - for the music. Also, Andy and Spence play a new game called "I don't spy with my little eye" with limited success.  Now stop stuffing the turkey and have a listen to the festive fun! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • 2001: A Christmas Odyssey

    10/12/2020 Duración: 47min

AKA Brian May and Bruce Forsyth. Here's a new one straight from the Cassette Tape archive: a Christmas episode that originally aired on 10th December 2001. Who knew we'd still be taking about the same things 2 decades later? Bond - check. Batman - check. Favourite Christmas song - check. Maybe we've progressed a bit from porn and fart jokes. But in terms of being progressive, how about giving away hundreds of tampons without any irony? Sit back with a Fox Mulder wine and imagine turning on your AM radio to get warm and fuzzy with the Soldiers of Hell at Christmas. • Overtime Goal

    20/11/2020 Duración: 30min

As mentioned in our last episode centred around online gaming we have also been playing a lot of Rocket League. Not enough to be any good at it. But enough for our wives to wonder what happened to their husbands. Well, here is the Cockshot, Gaming Dads, Victory Royale fourquel we threatened. This time Andy and Spence see if by partying up for some 2v2 action we see if we actually win something in this weird but elegant and oh so addictive game of oversized football with rocket powered cars. With a little bit of Ghostbusters chat thrown in for good measure. This month's soldier is Dr Peter Venkman. You can nominate someone new to join our ranks by dropping us a message on Anchor. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Swedish Stars in Their Eyes

    13/11/2020 Duración: 21min

Have yourself a merry Bobo Chrimbo and treat yourself to this minidisc archive episode from the 5th December 2000. In it we learn why Liam Gallagher joined the Soldiers of Hell, what happened at the Soldiers of Hell hat party, we plug the radio show rear of the year competition, Frank Carson comes in for 20 questions, and we have a round of The Sausage Link Game. And finally you get to appreciate the long forgotten gem that is Swedish Stars in Their Eyes! If you want to nominate a pop culture icon for the Soldiers of Hell then let us know via a message on Anchor. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Victory Royale

    20/10/2020 Duración: 33min

In a spiritual sequel to 2018's 'Gaming Dads' episode and 2019's 'Cock Shot', we now have 'Victory Royale' and the trilogy is complete. (Until we decide to do an unnecessary fourquel at some point. Just like Spielberg we reserve that right.) Yes, this is the podcast where we not only talk about video gaming online, but we try actually playing Fortnite whilst we do. We've invited Dave from the Geeky Guys back to lead our Fortnite squad as we try and level up through the ranks of this season's Marvel Nexus War. We're middle aged. We can't multitask. What could possibly go wrong? If you want to nominate a fictional icon to join our ranks, send us a message on Anchor.fm/soh --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Intergalactic Dream Team

    20/09/2020 Duración: 29min

In the Netflix movie The Babysitter, the two main characters Bee (Samara Weaving) and Cole discuss their Intergalactic Dream Teams; 5 fictional characters from disparate franchises, thrust together to put an end to a space war with a big bad. Well if we're not mistaken that sounds rather like the Soldiers of Hell; a pop-culture military force to be reckoned with. Join us for a special episode where Andy and Spence agree their nominees for the only crew that save humanity from an alien invasion. If you enjoy this episode, why not drop us a voice message on Anchor telling us which fictional character you'd like to join our ranks. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Cooking with Angel

    25/08/2020 Duración: 21min

In what seems to be an almost annual event now, one of the Soldiers of Hell cooks whilst the other finds a way to distract them with questions about pop culture old and new. This time topics include Let Loose (old), the Masked Singer (new), the Batfleck/Keaton/Flash team up (new), continuity (old), and Fox (Mulder) and Angel (very old).  Listen as Andy cooks up a storm. You don't get chat like this on Sunday Brunch! We also get our very first guest Soldier of Hell submission from Al from the Separate the Elite from the Chav podcast in the form of Michael Knight of Knightrider and chest-wig fame.  If you've got a pop culture icon you'd like to nominate to join our ranks then drop us a message on Anchor. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Fire Saga

    20/07/2020 Duración: 22min

The last time we could get together pre-lockdown we recorded our Eurovision Bond Contest episode. So what better way to celebrate a relaxing of restrictions by getting together for a ramble round a country park with an assessment of the new Eurovision movie on Netflix starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams. Has it knocked our film Transatlantic Smash off its perch as the number 1 musical comedy inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest? There's only one way to find out... • Free Binder with Part One

    20/06/2020 Duración: 20min

With shops now re-opening it's time to discuss what has kept us entertained during lockdown with Geeky Guys' Dave: Tiger King and Red Dwarf, baking with eggs and wasting eggs by kicking them. We also reminiscence about one of our highlights: last month's Zardoz viewing which subscribers may be suffering from PSTD of. In this episode we also show what shops might be like now - especially if they offer a free binder with part one to boost the economy. Watch the egg kicking video here: https://youtu.be/xBOT1XJjBSU --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Zardoz

    20/05/2020 Duración: 01h04min

There is no doubt that these are strange times. But when you succumb to watching Zardoz for entertainment - possibly the weirdest mainstream movie of all time - you can be excused of thinking that very soon you'll wake up and discover Bobby Ewing in the shower. Zardoz. The 1974 Sean Connery movie. The movie that the Soldiers of Hell have been threatening to watch for years. Well they've finally achieved it. And here are the podcasting results.  In this lesson you will learn: - What its all about. (Sounds easy to dissect. It's not.) - Why this film has resulted in one of our longest ever podcast episodes. (Don't expect Cliff notes on this one.) - Most importantly, whether Connery get his willy out or not --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Connery or Dutch

    20/04/2020 Duración: 31min

It's the brand new gameshow that everyone's talking about: Connery or Dutch! In this episode Andy competes against Dave from the Geeky Guys podcast to see who is better at telling the difference between Sean Connery and Dutch people. It's not as easy as it sounds, especially when it's Spence reading out the clues in a hybrid accent.   Will you like it? Yesh of coursh you will. Don't forget to share and shubscribe alsho. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • James Bond and the Eurovision Song Contest

    20/03/2020 Duración: 54min

AKA the Eurovision Bond Contest If you've ever listened to our podcast before, there's no dodging the fact that James Bond and the Eurovision Song Contest are two of our favourite things.  So why not smash them together? 25 classic theme songs and a protracted voting methodology resulting in one clear winner.  Strap in - it's a good one. Also in this episode we learn the answer to our recent ledger question about Batman and the T Rex and for the first time ever from a listener submission. Thanks to the following for the episode contributions: Rob - the Ledger Juror, Dave from the Geeky Guys podcast, Al from Separating the Elite from the Chav podcast, The UK jury, Steve 'Fixated On' Shooter, The Stag Party (Matt, Matt, Beaky and Chris) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Sabrina and the Songs for all Seasons

    20/02/2020 Duración: 25min

It's awards season. And with the Oscars over, Andy and Spence decide to play the Joker and hit you up with a load of pop music themed skits - or are our cheeky chappies actually Ant and Dec in disguise? Inspired by enjoying Billie Eilish's performance of excellent new Bond song No Time To Die at the Brit Awards, Spence goes round to fellow PMATL member Peter's house, where they write a new song dedicated to not just awards season but all seasons.  They also discuss who would play them in a film of their lives (spoiler alert - one of them is Sabrina the Teenage Witch).  If you want to know what Andy's chillout tune is and Spence's rock song of the week, then listen now! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Gandalf and the Tongue Twister

    20/01/2020 Duración: 36min

A new decade, a double-double figured year, and the year after all the anniversaries. It's time to discuss pop culture's highs and lows of 2019 and find out what we're looking forward to in 2020: including a climax for James Bond (not that kind) and a come back (not that kind) for old school fantasy.  We also learn when a Halloween costume is an investment, which Witcher Andy is talking about and everything we're excited for in the Spider-verse. The Soldiers of Hell will return... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Christmas Royal Rumble

    20/12/2019 Duración: 30min

Due to the incredible popularity of our 20th Anniversary Royal Rhumble (thank Ant and Dec for the spelling) we decided to crank out another heroic beat-em up to celebrate the Christmas festivities. Join Andy, Spence and Simon as they not only pit genuine Christmas characters against each other, but they also revel in bad puns to settle on heroes with a winter slant.  Who will join the current champions, Santa Claus and Kristine Kochanski in the ring?  And who will come out victorious of this Yuletide battle. There's only one way to find out..... fight! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Elsa and the Rugby Sausage Sizzle

    20/11/2019 Duración: 16min

As Andy, Spence and Simon prepare to have their hearts broken by the Rugby World Cup, they make tea, cook sausage sandwiches and take the opportunity to juxtapose their manliness with a discussion about Frozen 2; amongst other things. What about a Princess Bride cinematic universe? And who do we think Andy looks like this month? With it being the month after our 20th Anniversary celebration, we take a look back through the Minidisc Archive to find Radio Talent Show sketches. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • 20th Anniversary Ramble

    20/10/2019 Duración: 22min

Today is the 20th Anniversary of the Soldiers of Hell; literally 20 years since Andy and Spence first appeared on University Radio. So to mark the occasion we went for a 16 mile walk (unfortunately we didn't manage a mile for every year - not that we tried) and we took some friends and fellow podcasters along for the day.  Listen as we navigate the countryside, real ales and pop culture. There's a distinct Halloween vibe to this one as getting lost in the dark activates the scary bits of our imagination and we discuss which horror films it most conjures up. We also discuss Andy's defining Phantom of the Opera moment and coincide with the anniversary of Blair Witch. Aerosmith seemed to be the main order of the day when it came to soundtrack, but if you're listening on Anchor/Spotify there are a few more belters in there for you.  Listen to find out if we survived, or whether this episode was found in a field like the Blair Witch footage. Thanks to Simon, Simon 2, Beaky and Al from Separate the Elite from th

  • Minidisc Archive: Not Really The Last Show Ever

    13/10/2019 Duración: 42min

In 2002, Andy and Spence supposedly broadcast their last ever Soldiers of Hell show together. Now with the benefit of 17 years hindsight we can see that that was somewhat of an inaccurate prediction.  As we approach the 20th anniversary of the Soldiers of Hell, join us for another flashback episode, this time introduced by Pete from The Peter Marshall & The Lomos Show. Faithfully recreated from the Minidisc Archive and featuring the songs broadcast at the time thanks to Spotify (assuming you're listening on anchor). Thankfully, it's not our last ever show.  The Soldiers of Hell will return... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message

  • Minidisc Archive: The Steps Adventure REDUX

    04/10/2019 Duración: 41min

The original version of this episode of the Soldiers of Hell show dates back to 3rd December 2001 and this 20th Anniversary edit has been introduced by fellow podcaster  and friend of the show Steve Shooter (Fixated On, Aurally Fixated, Culturally Fixated, Diet Hard).  We've broken it down into segments for re-release on Anchor and you can hear it (almost) exactly as it was broadcast 17ish years ago; with all the original songs we selected for the show and broadcast at the time (if you're listening on Anchor with a Spotify Premium subscription).  We're not sure if this is best described as a bonus 20th Anniversary treat or an experiment, but let us know what you think and we might do some more throwback remakes! Maybe it was worth archiving all those minidiscs after all. Watch Transatlantic Smash:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1aZOUAcx_8  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soh/message
