  • DragonKing Dark Podcast - Anton Chigurh (No Country For Old Men) - Episode 216

    03/05/2020 Duración: 45min

We continue our look at complex movie villains with a dark or supernatural aspect to them. This week we look at one of my favorite- Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men. Upon first viewing in 2007, No Country For Old Men became one of my favorite movies and much of that surrounded how I related to Tommy Lee Jone's Ed Tom character but even more to Javier Bardem's Anton Chigurh who is both a great straight up bad guy, but beyond that, a psychological analog to the never-ending presence of evil in the world.

  • Thrash Metal Show Podcast - Karl Interviews NoFriender - Episode 84

    27/04/2020 Duración: 52min

This week, Karl from When It Was Cool interviews NoFriender in an episode that turns the tables on the host. We discuss how we both got into heavy metal and the course is interestingly similar. Early experiences with Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. Pre-thrash influences like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and more. Karl asks questions about Overkill, Anvil, Metallica, and a discussion about drumming and more. If you like music, you'll enjoy this episode!

  • DragonKing Dark - Bane from Dark Knight Rises - Episode 215

    26/04/2020 Duración: 46min

This week, host Karl Stern takes a look at another movie villain who is more than a one dimensional brute. We travel back to, what many feel, was the worst of the Nolan Batman films, however, the lead antagonist is an extremely interesting character.  Bane is, on first examination, a brute. A strongman who aims to "break the Bat" as per comic book lore. However, there is much more to Bane than meets the eye... even if you can't understand him.

  • Thrash Metal Show - Megadeth So Far So Good So What Part 5 - Episode 83

    20/04/2020 Duración: 01h18min

Red flash clouds choking out the morning sky. They said NoFriender would never come, we knew it was a lie. All other podcasts die now, the humans all succumb. Time to kiss your RSS goodbye, the end has just begun. Distorted figures walk the street, it's 1999... or 2020. Weeds once underneath the feet have grown to vines. Bodies melted like a candle, a land without a face. No time to change your fate, no time left, it's too late. The arsenal of NoFriender can't be rid of they said.

  • DragonKing Dark Podcast - Jason Voorhees - Episode 214

    19/04/2020 Duración: 46min

This week on DragonKing Dark, we explore the story and psychology of another icon of fear and horror - Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th movie series. The story of Jason changed frequently throughout the movie franchise but the stalking element of fear and surprise remained constant. DragonKing Dark continues to explore elements of the supernatural, fear, and paranormal through the stories we tell and this week we look back at one of the most iconic film series ever.

  • Thrash Metal Show (82) Megadeth So Far, So Good, So What - Part 4

    13/04/2020 Duración: 01h38min

NoFriender is broken. This new dystopian world of pandemic fear and hopelessness has irrevocably destroyed the man who was once the laziest man in podcasting. Rising from the ashes of old Earth comes a new, devoted, and productive NoFriender. This week he presents part 4 of his series on Megadeth and their 1988 album- So Far, So Good, So What! Thrash metal fans rejoice. At least we have more music talk even if you can't go to a concert.

  • DragonKing Dark - Lord Humungus the Road Warrior - Episode 213

    12/04/2020 Duración: 49min

Here he is, Humungus, the Lord Humungus. The master of the wastelands. The Ayatollah of rock and rolla! On this episode of DragonKing Dark Podcast, host Karl Stern takes a look at our possible dystopian future through the movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior and it's main antagonist- the Lord Humungus. As we live through this pandemic we are going to look at some pop culture that tells us stories of how the future could be.  THERE'S BEEN TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!

  • Thrash Metal Show - Megadeth So Far, So Good, So What Part 3 - Episode 81

    06/04/2020 Duración: 01h20min

NoFriender slithers out of his den yet again to deliver part 3 of his deep dive into the classic Megadeth album- So Far, So Good, So What! The album was released in 1988 and set the world on fire (pun) at the time going Platinum. The Thrash Metal Show Podcast returns yet again with a continuing look back at Megadeth!

  • DragonKing Dark - Outer Limits (1964) - Episode 212

    05/04/2020 Duración: 48min

On this edition of DragonKing Dark, host Karl Stern journeys back in time to 1964 for an episode of the sci-fi fueled TV show the Outer Limits and an episode titled The Solider which may have influenced The Terminator series of movies. A solider from the future is accidentally beamed back in time and tries to mesh with the world of 1964 and the results are less than successful.

  • Thrash Metal Show - Megadeth So Far, So Good, So What Part 2 - Episode 80

    30/03/2020 Duración: 01h25min

NoFriender returns (finally) with the second part of a series looking at the important thrash metal album by Megadeth: So Far, So Good, So What! In addition, in typical NoFriender style, he lazes his way through only to blasted by a fan letter to hopefully force him to regain his zeal for good... which apparently he has lost. I'm not sure any of us really want a NoFriender full of zeal but whatever, we have a dissenting opinion today.

  • DragonKing Dark - Secrets of the Sphinx - Episode 211

    29/03/2020 Duración: 56min

This week on DragonKing Dark, host Karl Stern takes a look at a 2013 documentary from the Smithsonian Channel called Secrets of the Sphinx. Of all the ancient monuments in Giza complex in Egypt, one stands out as different from the others. The great Sphinx seems out of place, out of scale, and older than the rest. The official archaeological story says different but one can see with their own eyes that the head is out of scale to the body and there are clear signs of water erosion. What's up with that? We discuss the age and theories of The Sphinx.

  • DragonKing Dark - Bionic Man vs Venus Death Probe - Episode 210

    22/03/2020 Duración: 45min

This week on DragonKing Dark Podcast, host Karl Stern looks back at a series of popular Six Million Dollar Man TV episodes featuring a Soviet Venus probe that malfunctioned and landed in the United States and went on a terror spree. The Venus death probe was indestructible, built to withstand the harsh conditions of the planet Venus. Then we will look at the reality behind the Venus probe including Russia's actual successful landing of a probe on Venus, the only pictures from it's nightmarish surface, and some really cool information about the hell world that is Venus.

  • DragonKing Dark - Hidden Best Monsters: Loch Ness - Episode 208

    08/03/2020 Duración: 52min

One of the most popular pop culture monsters of the 1970s was the Loch Ness monster, a supposed displaced dinosaur or sea creature in a deep Scottish lake. Nessy even made it into a song by The Police and Napoleon Dynamite. While the Loch Ness monster also seems like a plausible real thing that could exist, it turns out, it's the most likely of the famous 1970s monsters not to be real. This documentary from 2012 takes a look at how the Loch Ness monster turned out to be nothing more than a plot to get revenge on a newspaper.

This week on DragonKing Dark Podcast, host Karl Stern takes a look back at a 1996 documentary from In Search of History on the origins of Dracula. We will look back at the facts and fiction of tying the real-life Vlad Tepes to the fictional vampire lord Dracula. While Bram Stoker's Dracula gets his name and much of his home setting from Vlad the Impaler, there is some question of how much the two Dracula's have in common. We take a look back at this 1996 documentary and discuss what has changed since then. Support this podcast on Patreon at WhenItWasCool.com

  • DragonKing Dark - Master of Dark Shadows - Episode 205

    16/02/2020 Duración: 49min

This week on DragonKing Dark, Karl takes a look at a documentary from 2019 about the cult 1960s supernatural-themed soap opera Dark Shadows. We have talked about Dark Shadows before at When It Was Cool and this documentary promised a look behind the scenes and at the creator of the series- Dan Curtis. While it fell short in that area, it excelled in taking a look at the most interesting character from the show- Barnabas Collins.
