Sports Photography Philosophy Podcast

Part 2 of working at the Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022. This episode preview and first few days at the games. During a challenging time for the world with a global pandemic on, China are hosting a major event. One of what I hope to be a few over the coming weeks, a quick run down of what its like to work at the Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022. This episode is the build up and how I got here and what it took to get in the country. During a challenging time for the world with a global pandemic on, China are hosting a major event. How do you host an event with thousands of people flying in from all over the world when travel has become such a difficult proposition? I answer that in the show. You will here about the unique set up and the challenges for the team here which everyone from the local staff to athletes must have done to be involved. Sports Photography Philosophy Podcast No. 29. Today’s show is a special one for me. This was my first experience in Australia as a photographer for Getty Images. I spent 3 weeks working The Commonwealth Games held in the glorious Australian state of Queensland for Gold Coast 2018. For those not familiar with this event, it’s a multi-sport event in the similar vein as the Summer Olympics except the only countries that can compete are members states of the British Commonwealth. In the next hour, you will hear a pre-event photographers brief prior to the weightlifting, working with Clive Rose and new Nikon ambassador, Quinn Rooney in an outdoor pool bathed in Queensland sunshine, transmitting to editors in the media centre, shooting beach volleyball, badminton, gymnastic, track cycling, hockey and table tennis to name a few. When the sports calendar came out for 2018, this is one event which I was really looking forward too and as you will hear, it didn’t disappoint.
