Episode 37: Craig Reynolds (Stray From The Path / The Downbeat Podcast / Grustler)

    02/03/2021 Duración: 01h28min

My guest on this one is Craig Reynolds, drummer with the politically incendiary metal band Stray From The Path and host of the fantastic podcast The Downbeat. This episode looked like it was going to be a slight departure from the usual heaviness of SWIM as Craig is a good mate and usually when we catch up we end up talking nonsense for a minute, however amongst a lot of laughing and weird tangents, we got into discussing some heavy topics that have affected Craig in recent years such as anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. The portrait of Craig that I painted is oil, acrylic, coloured pencil and ink on paper. There may well be prints coming of this one. Keep an eye on both our socials:Craig on InstagramThe Downbeat on IGCraig on TWITCHI can be found hereSomeone Who Isn't Me on IGPlease leave a nice review as stuff like that makes a difference to podcast charts and I am super desperate for validation from internet daddy.Peace. We also discuss the work TTSA is doing with regard tobringing forward information and ideas that tie in with the phenomenon and its relationship to UAP's or as they are more commonly referred to as UFO's.There is an edit two thirds of the way through that would have been too obvious to not draw attention to, so I put in a censor beep which is mad clickbait-y but thats cos I am a dick. There wasnt any huge secret going on that I covered up, its just we started down a route of conversation that we didn't have time to get into as he was due to take a call as soon as we finished. Episode 32: Tobias Forge (Ghost)

    05/12/2019 Duración: 01h08s

In this episode of Someone Who Isn't Me, I speak with Tobias Forge, creative mastermind, songwriter and frontman from the band Ghost. We discuss the rise of the band to arena headliners, the bands journey, songwriting and creativity. Tobias tells how he struggles with the idea of people conflating him with the characters of Papa Emeritus and Cardinal Copia, the lead characters that have fronted the band through its career. He hints at creative endeavours elsewhere and how two events in his childhood have had a profound affect on the development and his creative vision, of what Ghost is.At the point where we were about to discuss fatherhood as a touring musician, my recording equipment died as I was using my new Aston Stealth mics and was unsure of how much the phantom power would drain the recorders battery. So please forgive the abrupt finish! The latest Ghost album 'Prequelle' has recently had the new 'Exalted' box set reissue and their UK tour recently finished. You can find the band online here:http://ghost-

Episode 31: Poppy & Titanic Sinclair (Artists / Musicians)

    06/10/2019 Duración: 01h03min

This episode is a conversation with the singer and artist known as Poppy and her collaborator Titanic Sinclair. Having met the pair of them a few times now and having spent some time with them 'off duty' as it were, I feel its fair to say that this is one of the first interviews Poppy has done where she steps away from the persona that is this whole project and had an open discussion about some deeper stuff. We discuss life, the music industry, art, creativity and more. We also get into some of the wild conspiracy theories swirling around the fringes of the internet regarding them both. It was definitely something I wanted to talk about as I find that they have read the current climate of a new 'satanic panic' like that which swept the entertainment industry in the 80's, which has now been 'upgraded' to a weird modern 'Luciferian Illuminati Reptilian Panic' and as artists they are reacting to that and are playing their hand well, in a very artful, creative and knowing way.Her forthcoming album 'I Disagree' is

James Lavelle of UNKLE discusses the new album 'The Road: Part 1' that come out Aug 18th. We also discuss his journey from creating Mo Wax Records when he was 18 up until this point. Taking in his meeting and collaborating with artists like Josh Homme, Ian Astbury, Chris Goss and Jeordie White etc. For an artists to come from a dance and hip hop background to end up producing Like Clockwork by Queens Of The Stone Age is an interesting transition from one genre to the another at a time when that really wasn't the norm. It would be fair that the paths created by artists such as James have made it the norm for todays musical and cultural landscape to be one that is happy to mix genres and cultures. Dan Searle, drummer with UK band Architects, talks about the loss of his twin brother Tom Searle, guitarist and songwriter for Architects. Its been a little over six months since Tom passed away due to cancer. On the eve of the bands North American tour Dan Searle contacted me about coming on Someone Who Isn't Me to discuss Tom's illness and its aftermath and how that informed their latest album 'All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us'. We spoke about how this has profoundly affected not only him and the rest of the band, but also the bands fanbase, what the future holds for the band, the beginnings of new music and moving forward. Its seems he's received a lot of requests to do interviews, but decided he'd like to come on the podcast and discuss these things in one place, so that there is a point of reference for anyone wanting to know the situation. As I say in the introduction, I'm aware people will transcribe this and share it in different ways, but please be respectful to everyone involved. The band have a...
