Sinopsis

With a new mix on www.soulshack.podomatic.com each month (as well as a monthly party the last Friday of every month at Cadillac Jenkins (Toronto), DJ-J-ME started "The Soul Shack" in November 2005 on Soulstream Networks as a way to share with the world his take on 'good' music...made with soul. From soulful & classic house to nu disco & chillwave to neo-soul & nu-jazz to rn'b to old school, funk and 'real' hip hop, it's all fair game on "The Soul Shack". Each month, depending on Jamie's mood you may hear any or all of the above music - sometimes a mixed bag of 'all things soulful', sometimes just a particular theme or genre...but always soulful!Check this podcast for the latest Soul Shack mixes & playlists (and check www.dj-j-me.podomatic.com for mainstream promo mixes) Archived Soul Shack mixes are available at www.mixcloud.com/soulshackAbout DJ-J-ME:Like most children of the 80s, Jamie grew up listening to mainstream radio and what is now known as retro and new wave, but after discovering college radio and shows like Daves Dance Music and The Fantastic Voyage/Power Move Show on 88.1 CKLN, he discovered a love for hip hop and dance/house music. Over the years his musical boundaries deepened as he found soulful house (on a record shopping trip to Vinylmania & Dancetracks NYC) and started his pursuit of digging up the soul & funk musical origins of today's hip hop & house while still embracing the music from his childhood.DJ-J-ME started his career as a mobile dj but over the past 10 years he has been building a reputation as one of the leaders of Torontos next generation of djs, bringing his soulful & eclectic sound to upscale venues such as Trump, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotel, Maro, Liberty Grand, Spin & Blowfish (including 6 years of performances during TIFF for celebrities including Clint Eastwood, Mat Damon, Kevin Spacey, Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher, Josh Brolin, Josh Hartnett, Zach Galifianakis etc., a Toronto Raptors Season launch party for Chris Bosh and team and a John Legend CD Release party) while still doing corporate events for clients such as Ford, GE & II by IV Design, New Years Eve at venues ranging from the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls to the Hardrock Café in Torontos Skydome as well as countless weddings and private events. Internationally he has djd in New York City, Chicago and Miamis South Beach (where hes impressed DJ Jazzy Jeff & Cee-Lo Green during his Adidas in-store performances and done numerous other WMC performances as well as regular nights/events at the Standard Hotel, Gansevoort Rooftop & Delano Hotel (where it was suggested he should get the Saturday night residency, but the commute from Toronto was a little far!)).His music style is a mature, sexy and soulful mix of house, chill wave, daytime disco, old school, re-edits, sophisticated retro, classic hip hop, RnB, future soul and lounge vibes, but thanks to his supreme versatility, diverse experience and heightened ability to read a crowd, he can also seamlessly add mainstream/top 40, classic rock, oldies (basically whatever the crowd dictates) into the mix with ease. DJ-J-ME is one of the rare few djs that combines the flare and technical abilities of a club dj, with the music knowledge and sensibilities of a mobile dj to provide the perfect musical backdrop no matter the crowd, venue or type of event.Impressing everyone who hears his mixes, theres no telling where else youll be hearing this dj in the future! For booking inquiries contact Jamie @ jamiewichartz@yahoo.ca

Episode 179: The Soul Shack (Sept 2020) live @ Better Days, Miami

    21/01/2021 Duración: 03h58min

There will be Better Days ahead! I haven't played a gig in over 1/2 a year now, so no new mixes to post, leaving me to dig into the archives. One of the places I miss playing the most is Better Days in Miami, so I figured I'd post the recording from my last time there, back in January. I play an afterwork set there, so it starts a little more chill and then builds up to a party vibe for the late nite dj to take over. My Better Days sets are definitely different to my other Miami sets, with more hip hop, top 40, party vibes. (I also took advantage of the rainy night and the freedom I get there to play a Raekwon song I love, but have never played out at a gig) Hope you enjoy! Episode 178: The Soul Shack (Dec 2020) aka "Christmas Cocktails 2020"

    17/12/2020 Duración: 04h08min

I know I'm still playing catch up here on Podomatic and the last post was the Summer Soundtrack, but it would be pointless to eventually post the December mix a few months from now, when the December mix is a "Christmas Cocktails" mix including Christmas music! So the next mix I post after this will be the September mix and so on, but for now, to get you into the Christmas spirit I give you "Christmas Cocktails 2020". I've posted a Christmas Cocktails mix on Mixcloud for about the last 3 or 4 years, which I would record at a corporate holiday party...but no holiday parties to dj this year :-( But with Covid, I felt like this year more than any, I needed to post a holiday mix, so I took lots of love, care and time creating this playlist, and then recording it at home. Without recording it for a live corporate audience, I could include types of music I typically wouldn't play at a holiday party, both because I needed to leave them to play later during the actual "dance" part of the evening, or because they

Episode 177: The Soul Shack (July & Aug 2020) aka "Summer Sndtrk Pt 1 & 2"

    20/11/2020 Duración: 04h15min

I'm still playing catchup here (I'm current on Mix cloud ;-) Soul Shack Summer Soundtrack! It was 2 parts for July & August, but I'm combining it here to get closer to catching up. Sadly I wasn't able to record it live somewhere this year, but it still needed to be made! This is a 4hr mix of new and old warm and sunny eclectic vibes, you're gonna love it! I'm also trying something new for this mix and turning OFF "downloads" - if you want to download this mix, all you gotta do is follow me on instagram (dj_j_me), send me a DM and I'll give you a d/l link Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_me Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=2343903312&ref=ts Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245

The Soul Shack (May 2020) aka "Birthday Livestream"

    27/08/2020 Duración: 04h09min

I always dj for my birthday, but this year was very different! With Covid-19 shutting down all gigs, I still wanted to dj for my birthday, so I went the livestream route. Thank you to the 200+ people that helped me celebrate & checked into the livestream & all of the people that participated in the comments/chat to make me feel more connected to people...& not just djing alone in my living room lol! This might become an annual thing! I split the mix into 2 parts on Mixcloud (go there for years of archived mixes plus some bonus non-Soul Shack mixes) but seeing as I'm trying to play catch up on Podomatic, I'm just posting it as one full mix. • The Soul Shack (Apr 2020) aka 90s (isolating in the) house mix

The Soul Shack (Apr 2020) aka "90's (isolating in the) house mix"

    18/07/2020 Duración: 03h42min

This is special. I was supposed to be djing a "grads of the 90's" reunion dance in May for my old high school, but it was obviously cancelled. I thought about recording a short 90's mix with a bit of everything...but that idea morphed into this 90's house mix. Putting this together was beyond nostalgic. I didn't realize the significance of this time period. In 1990 I was in gr 10, by 2000 I got married. In the decade between I started going to all ages clubs (NRG in Burlington) then turned 19 & started going to clubs in Toronto (like Whiskey Saigon, Club Max & Oz), I started djing & record collecting & then by the end of the decade I went from the more "club" house making up most of this mix, to the more soulful stuff (& going to Roxy Blu). These 80 songs all are significant to me - I would love to know which ones are significant for you. Also, I know I get a ton of downloads on Podomatic (to the point where I reach my bandwidth limit within days of resetting it, and can't upload a new mix until it resets ag

The Soul Shack (Sept 2019) w/ DJ-J-ME live @ One Loft Mr. V Party

    26/10/2019 Duración: 01h17min

We brought Mr. V back to Toronto on Sept 7th and even though this party was going to be more of a house music warehouse party... I felt it was still appropriate to open the night up Soul Shack style, starting out at 90bpm "proper" hip hop vibes, and building to house music for everyone else to take over (thinking back to the lounge in Roxy Blu back in the days, before opening the main room). This is my opening set, going from NXWorries & Thundercat to 124bpm house music in under 1.5hrs! (crammed 48 songs in too!) Heavy on early 90's (& a bit of late '80's) NYC hip hop, this opening set is NOTHING like how the rest of the night went down! Hope you enjoy (and if you came out to party with us and hear V tear the house down, thank you!)
