Sinopsis

With a new mix on www.soulshack.podomatic.com each month (as well as a monthly party the last Friday of every month at Cadillac Jenkins (Toronto), DJ-J-ME started "The Soul Shack" in November 2005 on Soulstream Networks as a way to share with the world his take on 'good' music...made with soul. From soulful & classic house to nu disco & chillwave to neo-soul & nu-jazz to rn'b to old school, funk and 'real' hip hop, it's all fair game on "The Soul Shack". Each month, depending on Jamie's mood you may hear any or all of the above music - sometimes a mixed bag of 'all things soulful', sometimes just a particular theme or genre...but always soulful!Check this podcast for the latest Soul Shack mixes & playlists (and check www.dj-j-me.podomatic.com for mainstream promo mixes) Archived Soul Shack mixes are available at www.mixcloud.com/soulshackAbout DJ-J-ME:Like most children of the 80s, Jamie grew up listening to mainstream radio and what is now known as retro and new wave, but after discovering college radio and shows like Daves Dance Music and The Fantastic Voyage/Power Move Show on 88.1 CKLN, he discovered a love for hip hop and dance/house music. Over the years his musical boundaries deepened as he found soulful house (on a record shopping trip to Vinylmania & Dancetracks NYC) and started his pursuit of digging up the soul & funk musical origins of today's hip hop & house while still embracing the music from his childhood.DJ-J-ME started his career as a mobile dj but over the past 10 years he has been building a reputation as one of the leaders of Torontos next generation of djs, bringing his soulful & eclectic sound to upscale venues such as Trump, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotel, Maro, Liberty Grand, Spin & Blowfish (including 6 years of performances during TIFF for celebrities including Clint Eastwood, Mat Damon, Kevin Spacey, Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher, Josh Brolin, Josh Hartnett, Zach Galifianakis etc., a Toronto Raptors Season launch party for Chris Bosh and team and a John Legend CD Release party) while still doing corporate events for clients such as Ford, GE & II by IV Design, New Years Eve at venues ranging from the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls to the Hardrock Café in Torontos Skydome as well as countless weddings and private events. Internationally he has djd in New York City, Chicago and Miamis South Beach (where hes impressed DJ Jazzy Jeff & Cee-Lo Green during his Adidas in-store performances and done numerous other WMC performances as well as regular nights/events at the Standard Hotel, Gansevoort Rooftop & Delano Hotel (where it was suggested he should get the Saturday night residency, but the commute from Toronto was a little far!)).His music style is a mature, sexy and soulful mix of house, chill wave, daytime disco, old school, re-edits, sophisticated retro, classic hip hop, RnB, future soul and lounge vibes, but thanks to his supreme versatility, diverse experience and heightened ability to read a crowd, he can also seamlessly add mainstream/top 40, classic rock, oldies (basically whatever the crowd dictates) into the mix with ease. DJ-J-ME is one of the rare few djs that combines the flare and technical abilities of a club dj, with the music knowledge and sensibilities of a mobile dj to provide the perfect musical backdrop no matter the crowd, venue or type of event.Impressing everyone who hears his mixes, theres no telling where else youll be hearing this dj in the future! For booking inquiries contact Jamie @ jamiewichartz@yahoo.ca

  • Episode 193: The Soul Shack (Nov/Dec 2021) - "16 Yr Anniversary Mix" (live @ Function Bar)

    18/02/2022 Duración: 05h02min

He's done with the Cottage Mix Series...finally!!! Yup, gotta get back to the Soul Shack vibes and celebrate 16 Years of the podcast! 192 episodes! Crazy! If this were pre-Covid, I'd be recording this mix down in Miami under palm trees...but it's (it was) 2021, and we're now in the 4th wave of the pandemic, so still no traveling for me. Thankful though that at least I got to record this mix live this year instead of on Twitch like last year. This was recorded at a little spot in Toronto called Function Bar, where they let me get funky with it! Hope you enjoy!Bookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca (hats, tees, hoodies, tanks, mugs)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=2343903312&ref=ts

  • Episode 192: The Soul Shack (Sept/Oct 2021) aka Sunday Morning Edition - Cottage Mix 2021

    18/01/2022 Duración: 06h22min

It's finally recorded! Old people my age you're gonna LOVE this mix! Definitely if you're a fan of laid back chill vibes to ease into the weekend with a coffee (or with me posting this on Podomatic in January, for hibernating through the cold & snow of winter). This is the last (and possibly best) installment of the Cottage Mix Series "Sunday Morning". I broke it into 3 parts on Mixcloud, but I'm trying to catch up here, so it's all one long 6+ hour mix!Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it's still based on my personal taste in music) but this one has a much wider audience, so please, if you appreciate this mix, share the link! Share it with coworkers, family and facebook friends! • Episode 191: A Soul Shack Christmas (2021) - DJ-J-ME

    17/12/2021 Duración: 04h26min

This is my Christmas gift to you. (I'll jump back to where I was in the uploading of mixes and post the Sunday Morning Cottage Mix and the 16 Year Anniversary Mix in January & February, but this one needed to get posted before Christmas!)After recording last year's Christmas Cocktails and trying to make it timeless I thought I didn't need to make another one this year... but then decided why not make a Soul Shack Christmas! A proper Soul Shack mix with Soul Shack music, but mixed with Christmas music too! Last year I added my personal taste to the more mainstream Christmas Cocktails format but this year I've taken it a step further and just went 100% Soul Shack (with some mainstream acapellas and remixes to make it a little more accessible).I truly hope this mix brings a little extra joy to you and your loved ones and I hope you all stay healthy and safe this holiday season and into the new year!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id3

  • Episode 190: The Soul Shack (Aug 2021) aka Friday Night Edition - Cottage Mix 2021

    20/11/2021 Duración: 04h49min

Instead of my usual Soul Shack Summer Soundtrack, I'm continuing with the 2021 Cottage Mix Series, this time the Friday Night Edition (the party vibes!).Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it was my first live gig in 499 days!). It's similar to Better Days vibes which is why I'm posting it as the August mix and not a special non-soul shack mix, but this one definitely has more mainstream appeal, so please, if you appreciate the mix, share the link (and feel free to let me know on Instagram too dj_j_me)- Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_me - Bookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca- Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245 - Follow on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dj_j_me

  • Episode 186: The Soul Shack (July 2021) aka Saturday Afternoon Edition - Cottage Mix 2021

    16/10/2021 Duración: 05h19min

People my age you're gonna LOVE this mix! Definitely if you're a fan of #depechemode #neworder #thecure (if you grew up in the Toronto area and listened to CFNY) Instead of my usual Soul Shack Summer Soundtrack, this year I'm doing a Cottage Mix Series, with the first installment being the Saturday afternoon vibes.Soul Shack fans should still enjoy (it's still based on my personal taste in music) which is why I'm posting it as the July mix and not as a special non-soul shack mix, but this one has a much wider audience, so please, if you appreciate this mix, share the link! Share it will all of your old high school facebook friends! • Episode 185: The Soul Shack (May & June 2021) aka "Birthday Livestream 2021"

    20/09/2021 Duración: 03h59min

I broke this livestream recording into 2 parts on Mixcloud (where you can only stream, but I am up to date there) but as I'm trying to catch up here on Podomatic (where if I miss my small window to upload a new mix, I max out my bandwidth for the month and can't upload anything new) I'm just uploading the whole mix as one, so this is May & June. With Canada still under a stay at home order back in April, I decided to do a birthday livestream again this year, the first on my new Twitch page (twitch.tv/dj_j_me) It was mostly new (to me) music I had added to my library to that point.  So if you missed the actual livestream, here's your way to enjoy it on your own schedule (without having to hear me talk over the music lol!)And if anyone liked the Pretty In Pink Soul Shack tee I was wearing in the livestream, they are for sale ;-)Bookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.caSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_me

  • Episode 184: The Soul Shack (Apr 2021) aka "Hip Hop From My 20's Pt 1 (backpack boombap edition)

    16/07/2021 Duración: 02h38min

So last April I got nostalgic and recorded a 90's (isolating in the) house mix. A year later Ontario is going into our latest 4 week lockdown and I'm getting nostalgic again, but this time for the hip hop from my twenties. There will be a second "street" edition, but part one here is (for lack of a better word) more of the "backpack" stuff. Still boom bap, but not the street, club or radio stuff... this is the jazz sampling more underground stuff. I had to put #Dilla on the artwork because his productions are all over this mix! • Episode 183: The Soul Shack (Mar 2021) aka "2020 Lounge Music ReCap"

    17/06/2021 Duración: 03h30min

Pushed back a month this year, but here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. (it almost works better with the sunshine and spring being just around the corner!) As usual, lots of range here in tempo and style, some new stuff, some reworks of old (as well as a bunch of my own retouches), but all (non house) stuff that I really liked in 2020. I recorded it at home this year (thanks pandemic) so there's even a little TicToc inspired twist at the end! So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working from home or doing your household chores lol!)Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Follow on Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=2343903312&ref=tsFollow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meFollow on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dj_j_meBookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca (including t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs)#chillout #loungemusic #nudisco #rnb #sou

It's January, and that means looking back with my #housemusic recap from the past year. A journey through various styles of house and the tracks that caught my attention in 2020. This is part 1 (Jan) & part 2 (Feb) combined, as I try to catch up on Podomatic (updated and archived mixes are available on Mixcloud)Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meFollow on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/dj_j_meBookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca (including t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs)

  • The Soul Shack (Apr 2020) aka "90's (isolating in the) house mix"

    18/07/2020 Duración: 03h42min

This is special. I was supposed to be djing a "grads of the 90's" reunion dance in May for my old high school, but it was obviously cancelled. I thought about recording a short 90's mix with a bit of everything...but that idea morphed into this 90's house mix. Putting this together was beyond nostalgic. I didn't realize the significance of this time period. In 1990 I was in gr 10, by 2000 I got married. In the decade between I started going to all ages clubs (NRG in Burlington) then turned 19 & started going to clubs in Toronto (like Whiskey Saigon, Club Max & Oz), I started djing & record collecting & then by the end of the decade I went from the more "club" house making up most of this mix, to the more soulful stuff (& going to Roxy Blu). These 80 songs all are significant to me - I would love to know which ones are significant for you. Also, I know I get a ton of downloads on Podomatic (to the point where I reach my bandwidth limit within days of resetting it, and can't upload a new mix
