  • The very real, very exciting future of branches

    29/10/2020 Duración: 07min

BBVA USA frequently leads the banking industry in digital transformation, rolling out award-winning products, and collaborating with fintechs and tech giants to bring a new, convenient age of banking to its clients. However, there is a common misconception with consumers and banking publications alike that deem digital banking and branches as mutually exclusive. This is not the case with BBVA. In 2020, BBVA saw some developments that proved this - especially when considering the pandemic. In this podcast, we’ll take a look at BBVA’s actions in 2020, how it used innovation and data to reboot its branch network in a COVID world, and its branch strategy moving forward into 2021. Spoiler alert: Its branch strategy is moving in the opposite direction of most banks across the country. We first start with the journey the bank’s branch network underwent at the onset of the pandemic, and how BBVA used it as an opportunity to implement its innovative thinking.

  • Prepare for an increased focus on sustainability

    01/10/2020 Duración: 07min

BBVA USA might don a logo steep in shades of blue, but make no mistake, over the past few years, the bank has turned its attention to a very green topic. As part of the bank’s 5-year strategic plan, unveiled in January publicly and internally, the bank has included six pillars that are guiding its strategy as it dives headfirst into the next decade. With the global pandemic plaguing the entire globe, BBVA USA’s 5-year plan has not shifted - and in fact has become more relevant than ever. One of those six pillars guiding its strategy is its second pillar that focuses on helping its clients to transition towards a sustainable future. This includes economic sustainability - and of course - environmental sustainability. In addition to creating financial products and services to help clients understand, manage and control their own finances, BBVA is committed to helping clients prepare for an increased focus on sustainability from an environmental standpoint. In this podcast, we take a look at what BBVA is doing i

  • The current and future state of the U.S. mortgage industry

    27/08/2020 Duración: 23min

The mortgage scene can be a complex one. During normal times, consumers find themselves with a lot of questions that need to be answered in order to make an informed decision on one of the biggest milestones in their lifetimes. And that’s during normal times. Of course, the times in which we find ourselves now can be categorized as anything but. More variables are at play with the current health crisis, and as a result, questions have materialized around the mortgage scene, what has changed, what is the current and future situation with interest rates, what to keep in mind when considering refinancing, and other topics that could alter consumer decisions drastically. BBVA USA Head of Mortgage Banking Murat Kalkan sat down recently with The Mind Bank to discuss a plethora of topics around the mortgage industry - and cleared up the current state of that space.

  • Scamming has been more prominent with more opportunities

    21/07/2020 Duración: 09min

While the pandemic created by the novel COVID-19 develops and sends Americans down an unprecedented path, fraudsters are jumping at the chance to capitalize on that uncertainty. These scams target consumers and businesses alike, and have been rampant in the news cycle. Even more, as tax day has come and gone, the Internal Revenue Service has come out with it’s “Dirty Dozen”, which represents the worst of the current tax scams plaguing the U.S. With uncertain times becoming more uncertain by the day, and the country facing a generational crisis, scamming has become more prominent with more opportunities. As families look to secure their financial and physical health, it is even more important to be extra vigilant in combating predatory practices. When the pandemic first came to fruition in the U.S., BBVA.com came out with initial scamming practices caused by the pandemic. This is where we’ll start. • "Amplifying digital transformation...is now more vital than ever"

    24/06/2020 Duración: 24min

The future will never look the same. If one were to scour news articles and studies around the current health situation, one will find that a good portion of medical experts will convey this concept. It’s difficult to say what the future will look like in multiple facets of society, but it’s safe to say that the ripple effects will be prominent, at least in the beginning. Good health practices have dominated headlines. So have finances - both with small businesses and personal. With the Paycheck Protection Program and stimulus checks very much part of the U.S. COVID-19 narrative, the banking industry has also strolled down the path of adaptation. For BBVA USA operations, sights were already set on the future as the bank charted its journey into the 2020s. For more than a decade, the bank has been a pioneer in digital banking, foreseeing the impact of the digital revolution. The bank has now launched its new mobile banking app, Mobile 9.0, and expanded transaction detail screen in mobile and online banking, ca

  • "It made a huge difference" how quickly BBVA funded the PPP loan

    27/04/2020 Duración: 24min

While the ripple effects of COVID-19 have essentially hit almost every aspect of life in the U.S., the Paycheck Protection Program - part of the CARES Act passed by Congress in response to the negative economic impact the pandemic has had - has highlighted the difficulties that have befallen small businesses from coast-to-coast. Also known as the PPP, the program is designed to incentivize qualifying small businesses to continue to pay its employees. The PPP has a maximum loan amount of $10 million and is designed to keep employees on a small business’ payroll for eight weeks. BBVA's involvement in the program has yielded meaningful results. The bank was one of the first in the U.S. to open for applications so that applicants could be among the first in line for the federal funding program. The bank also trained hundreds of additional employees so that it can continue to process the applications quickly. As of mid-April, BBVA USA’s share of job saving and retaining through this program would be more than 312,

  • BBVA The Mind Bank 1S 14 - Alternative Meat

    31/03/2020 Duración: 18min

Disruption has reached the meat industry. A group of companies in the biotechnology space has effectively developed meat made from plants or from the in vitro cultivation of animal cells. Alternative meat is not new. However, what makes the new generation of products unique is that their creators achieved what just some years ago seemed impossible, that is, to replicate the texture and flavor of the meat without slaughtering animals. If the innovation succeeds, these companies will revolutionize the food industry in a way comparable to how Amazon and Tesla transformed the retail trade and auto landscape.

  • Sports app evolution is intense - but so is the sports world

    23/01/2020 Duración: 09min

Digital, in a lot of cases of innovation, means convenience and mobility. This is especially the case in the sports entertainment industry - a quickly-evolving business that seemingly takes its digital operations to a new level each year. If you inspect certain categories of sports apps that are available - from sports gambling, to live streams, to fantasy football, to news - you'll see that these applications are carefully designed to bring the latest in technology to the average sports aficionado, and is bringing more dimensions to the sports industry that have ever been imagined. Not all sports applications are successful, as with any apps, which may seem obvious. But successes and failures are on an even bigger stage with these apps, given the wide fan-base of any given sport.

  • The digitization of holiday shopping

    23/12/2019 Duración: 06min

Mobile applications have helped tremendously for those who don't wish to navigate the hordes of holiday shoppers around the mall or department store - much like a taxing game of slalom. Your shopping experience is literally in the palm of your hands, and finished at the tips of your fingers. It's no secret that these applications have shortened the shopping experience substantially. And it's amazing how the shopping experience seems to get digitized even more as these applications and websites evolve. In this podcast, we'll take a look at studies that dive deeper into this evolution, how the trends look this holiday season, and we'll also take a look at a list of the top online shopping apps out there.

  • The Cibersecurity Blanket

    21/11/2019 Duración: 16min

While you're browsing the web, reading news articles, scrolling through Facebook, checking your bank account or logging into your company's system, there's always a looming threat that could compromise your personal information. The fact is, unfortunately, threats are a way of life in today's increasingly digital age. In fact, cybercrimes have accounted for trillions of dollars in losses, according to Juniper research, an amount that the online and digital market research firm says is $2 trillion so far in 2019. Fortunately, this danger is not without a way to combat it.

  • "They bought into the (moon) mission"

    29/10/2019 Duración: 20min

Polaris - better known as the North Star - is famous for being a still, unmoving beacon in the Earth's sky while the entire northern sky moves all around it. It's located nearly at the north celestial pole and it always marks the way due north. Once you discover it, you'll know the direction north. Even when the moon is full and it obscures other stars that dot the sky, the North Star is still easy to see. You'll know where you're going. Much like the north star, a person's values can guide and direct them to where they want to go in life. They are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. Much like the north star, values can help you find your way to a better place. That's why BBVA celebrates Values Day - and celebrated its second-annual Values Day on October 2. Over the course of the day, bank employees participated in workshops and activities that reinforced the central pillars underpinning the bank’s mission, “to bring the age of opportunity to everyone.” Getting people to bu

  • Tackling the crucial challenges that humanity faces

    26/09/2019 Duración: 10min

Sustainability has dominated the headlines around the world for decades, and is only picking up speed. From achieving a sustainable future by local initiatives to campaigns by larger entities here in the U.S. and across the globe. A whopping 7,500 companies issue annual sustainability reports in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative. The Global Reporting Initiative, or GRI, helps businesses and governments understand and communicate their impact on critical sustainability issues such as the following: climate change, human rights, governance and social well-being. Their overall goal? To empower decisions that create social, environmental and economic benefits for everyone. That's only the beginning the story.

  • "Digital chaos for teachers" can be cured

    29/08/2019 Duración: 07min

While the last day of summer isn't for a while, summer vacation is indeed over for most of the country's students. Gone are the days of sunshine and beaches, and here are the days of learning and ambition. Time to hit the books. Or rather, the screens. There was a time when computer labs reigned supreme as a school's center for technology. Now, it seems an entire school can serve as a computer lab, with tablets and iPads distributed to the student body, and online homework assignments being doled out constantly. In this month's The Mind Bank Podcast, we take a look at how digital learning has evolved over the course of recent memory, what challenges it can pose, and how implementing digital has enhanced the overall educational experience.

  • Visions of the future - what do conferences like Money 2020 tell us about the future of the financial services sector?

    30/07/2019 Duración: 39min

When it comes to seeing what is coming down the line in financial services, the sector’s wide range of industry conferences is a great place to start. These events, such as Money 2020 in Amsterdam last month, see thousands of people attend, speaking about what is new in banking, showing off their latest innovations and debating the trends likely to shape the sector’s future. For BBVA it is a chance to start collaborations with the kind of fast growth disruptive fintech businesses that we believe will better help our customers and clients achieve their ambitions and make the best use of both their data and financial assets. It's also a fantastic opportunity to share some of the bank’s thinking around how we are transforming from being a bank to a trusted advisor and the critical importance of openness in the sector. Perhaps more importantly, to hear from leaders in their field about where they think the industry is heading. In this Podcast we are going to do exactly that - and to explore two key areas that ar

  • "Empowerment. Inspiring. Sharing. Disruption."

    11/06/2019 Duración: 37min

BBVA announced its official transition to a unified brand and launched a new logo across its footprint, as it advances in its efforts to offer its customers the best products and services, in an increasingly digital environment. In the U.S., customers will no longer see Compass. Venezolanos will no longer see Continental. Frances will cease in Argentina, and Bancomer will be dropped in Mexico. Across the globe, bank buildings will adorn the freshly minted BBVA logo, with an ascending "A" that will point towards the sky. Onward and upward - but more on that later.

  • Increase brand visibility in an increasingly digital world

    23/05/2019 Duración: 07min

  • "Location has become less important" with technology

    25/04/2019 Duración: 18min

Multiple tech startups are disrupting the old guard and traditional way of doing things. Some people don't even step foot inside of a grocery store anymore, choosing to stock their fridge with an online app or website from their couch. Tech startups are popping up like weeds, seemingly changing the business landscape across the country. But what does it take to build one of these ideas from the ground up? How does one know which industry is ripe for the picking in terms of digital disruption? How do you cut through the noise and make your tech startup a formidable rival to others? Finally, when you think of these companies, you think of San Francisco or New York. Or even Austin, Texas. Those locations have been deemed hotbeds for tech startup development. That begs the question - does location matter?

  • "We knew we needed technology"

    29/03/2019 Duración: 15min

Digital transformation. Technological advances. Innovate to compete. These are phrases commonly used in the business world - in interviews, external messaging, and yes, even podcasts like this one. The 21st century has seen an evolution of technology that has both left small businesses in its wake and allowed small businesses and startups to thrive. It can be a crutch in some instances, and a curse, it seems. There seems to be an array of opinions when it comes to small businesses and entrepreneurship - and how digital capabilities can be woven into every day operations to elevate operations. Despite the growing digital world - some small businesses may be reluctant to jump into the deep pool of digital opportunities. There are some that say they might need to reconsider.
