Follow Your Spirit

Today's podcast takes a look back a the Spirit's win over the Boston Breakers and looks forward to their game on the road at Sky Blue. Also, we get a chance to meet Katie Stengel and learn about her more as a player and as a person. Intro music from our very own Spirit Squadron.

The Washington Spirit played an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday in lieu of their originally scheduled preseason match versus University of North Carolina. The Tarheels had to cancel their appearance as they would have been unable to field a team. The scrimmage ended in a 1-1 draw that prompted penalty kicks. The "white" squad came away with the final decision winning the PK set 3 to 1. Wys had two impressive saves in the shootout giving the White squad the opportunity for a victory. The scrimmage doesn't make for much analysis or commentary, so I decided to invite Caitlin Buckley from Black and Red United to join me on the podcast again. Caitlin made her FYS debut last week as we talked preseason and bold predictions. This week, I play a "stats game" with Caitlin. I dug up some stats from the past seasons and quizzed Caitlin. Then, we discussed if those performances could or would repeat this season.

This week's podcast provides a recap of the 2-0 over Penn State. Player interviews include Crystal Dunn, Christine Nairn, and Ali Krieger. Coach Gabarra also joins us for a few words. The last segment features Caitlin Buckley from Black and Red United. Her and I discuss the Spirit's two preseason games and some bold predictions moving forward.

The Washington Spirit took down the University of Virginia 3-0 on Saturday. It is the first time the Spirit have beaten UVA in a preseason match up.
