  • Ep 69: BONUS! 22+ Things we watched in quarantine

    15/06/2020 Duración: 41min

This BONUS episode is for anyone looking for something interesting to watch (for families and for grown ups). On roughly week 11 of the Los Angeles lockdown due to the coronavirus, I sat down with my husband Jeff and our two kids - ages 8 & 10 - for a lighthearted chat about all the movies, documentaries, and tv series we watched during quarantine since this season meant a LOT more screen time for our family than usual.  Full show notes here. • Ep 68: Hometown: A conversation about race with LaToyia Brown, Monica Pickens, and Danielle Williams

    09/06/2020 Duración: 01h08min

This episode is for anyone trying to understand another person's experience.  I’ve wanted to have this conversation with my hometown friends since I made the BIAS series on Smartest Person in the Room in 2018. I preferred to do it in person back then, but when the recent protests started over the murder of George Floyd, I asked if they would be willing to record online instead. LaToyia Brown, Monica Pickens, Danielle Williams and I grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma, a town that sits on I-35 about halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas. Population 25,000. Ardmore is 63.2% White and 10.2% Black. I am white and LaToyia, Monica, and Danielle are Black. As I’m learning more about the racial divide in our country, I wanted to ask these friends about their lives in our hometown. I wondered if they experienced discrimination, what was taught in their homes and churches, and what they think about America now versus when we were kids. I had no idea what they were going to say when I pressed record. Our conversation is vul

    31/03/2020 Duración: 35min

This episode is for anyone needing a little light distraction.  The Tremaines are waving hello from week 3 of self-isolation to stop the spread of coronavirus. This episode ended up being an accidental model for the type of conversations you could be documenting in your life and family right now during this historic time.  My husband Jeff and I start the show by answering questions from the 10TTTY FB Connection group, including: have we learned anything about one another during this time? How do we balance accepting one another while also pushing the other to grow? How are we connecting right now? Then our kids jump on for just a few minutes and share their thoughts on what spring break in self-isolation looks like.  This turned into a fun, family-centered show.  This episode is sponsored by BLINKIST. • BONUS: Anxiety always makes sense (A conversation with Dr. Becky from DrBeckyAtHome)

    19/03/2020 Duración: 51min

This episode is for you if you need to understand and better cope with your anxiety. Dr. Becky from Dr. Becky At Home is a clinical psychologist who specializes in helping people cope with anxiety and stress. I found her on Instagram when someone shared one of her posts, and what followed is one of the best and most important conversations I’ve ever had on this show.   Dr. Becky encourages us to form a relationship with our anxiety, and our conversation includes all of the things I’ve always wanted to ask: what does self-talk REALLY look like? What does it mean if we really can’t find the source of our anxiety? How do we balance being “strong” in front of our kids while also letting them see us have natural emotions?   I am so excited to share this one with you. This will be a conversation I will reference for a long time.   DrBeckyAtHome on Instagram   DrBeckyAtHome website   *   Full show notes for this episode   @10ThingsToTellYou on Instagram   @10ThingsToTellYou on facebook   Learn more about your ad

  • Ep 57: Is it anxiety or intuition?

    17/03/2020 Duración: 21min

This episode is for you if you have a hard time distinguishing between your anxiety and your intuition.  As someone who talks openly online about both my lifelong anxiety and following my intuition, this is a question I get a lot. I don't have all the answers, and don't always get this 100% correct, but on this episode I'm talking through how we can conflate these two things, and the #1 question I ask myself to know the difference.  This episode is sponsored by AURATE. • Ep 56: Who were your cultural icons when you were young?

    10/03/2020 Duración: 24min

This episode is for you if you're in the mood for a little light-heartedness.  Today I'm taking a walk through the cultural icons of my youth and what it says about who we were drawn to when we were kids. Whether it's actors, fictional characters, musicians or sports stars, the people we wanted to be when we were young say something about our personalities.  This is a fun conversation to have at a party or on a road trip. (Spring break, anyone?) But there are still insights and connections to be made with a pop culture topic.  This episode is sponsored by SKILLSHARE. • Ep 55: Living Abroad with Kids (10 Takeaways with Julie Stillwell)

    03/03/2020 Duración: 01h25min

This episode is for you if you've ever dreamed of living abroad with your family for a year.  I've been dying to share this conversation with my dear friend Julie Stillwell. In 2018, Julie and her husband Tom took their two young daughters to live in Amsterdam for one year. All four had lived in Los Angeles their whole lives, so this was a family adventure with a hundred takeaways.  We talk about the logistics of moving abroad and the emotions of both leaving and adjusting. We talk living without a car and sending their kids to the International School. We talk about style and food in Amsterdam versus the United States. We talk about why life seems simpler and slower in this part of Europe, and how temporary absence can actually deepen relationships.  There are so many nuggets of wisdom and things to think about in this episode. It made me realize that sitting down with a friend and giving full focus to something big in their life isn't something I do enough.  Full show notes for this episode here. @10ThingsT

  • BONUS: 10 Books in my To Read pile + listener recommendations!

This episode is for you if you can never get enough book talk. This Best Books lately episode ran longer than I expected and I didn't have time to tell you about all the awesome books in my MASSIVE To Read pile. I love hearing what YOU'RE reading lately, and so the last few minutes of this bonus episode includes listener recommendations, straight from their own mouths. So now my To Read pile is somehow larger than it was before I recorded this... * Full show notes for this episode here.   @10ThingsToTellYou on Instagram   @10ThingsToTellYou on facebook   Join the 10 Things Connection Group on FB   Learn more about your ad choices. This episode is for you if you struggle with negative self-talk. A lot of have a critical voice in our head telling us all sorts of ugly things that lead to second-guessing and self-doubt. But where did that voice originate? Did it come from a parent? An old coach or similar authority figure from your youth? An ex?  On this episode, I'm sharing about the critical voices in MY head and why identifying them (instead of struggling to ignore them) is helpful to squash them for good.  This episode is sponsored by Glossier.
