In this Chai Time show, we talk to award winning Hindi poetess, journalist and activist, Dr. Anita Kapoor Anitaji has been active in the field of journalism for a very long time in India as well as United States. She actively contributes to various magazines and newspapers in India and USA. Currently, she is the chief editor of the Hindi monthly newspaper Yaadein. She has penned many beautiful poems and her publications include poetry collection, Bikhare Moti, Kadambari, Achute Swar, Sanson ke hastakshar and a haiku collection, Darpan ke Sawaal. She is very active in various organizations in Bay Area serving the South Asian communities to promote Indian heritage and culture. She is currently president of Vishwa Hindi Jyoti, which is working to promote Hindi Language and culture in USA. Most recently, she was Editor for the Poetry for NRI section of Delhi Film Festival where she was part of the organizing committee. Holi is around the corner, in India Holi will be celebrated on 26th March. Holi is the Festival of Colors, traditionally celebrated to welcome spring, as well as the harvesting season. Holi is celebrated with music, food, and a lot of color. The main festivities involve tossing colored powder at one another or soaking others with colored water. Colors everywhere, joyous celebrations, singing, dancing…Holi is a boisterous occasion. It’s a festival that brings joy and mirth, fun and play, music and dance, and, of course, lots of bright colors! It is all about spreading the colors of happiness around and when colors are spread with a cause, then it is called Asha Stanford Holi which is a very popular and well known event in the bay area. World history of the dance In this Chai Time episode, we will take a journey to celebrate the spirit of dance, through a very young and talented dancer Shraddha Joglekar. For her, dance is a worship, a passion and a spiritual connection. Shraddha is the creative director of dance school KalaAvishkar, where she teaches Bharatnatyam to the students of all ages. Shraddha has conceived, choreographed and produced dance dramas Geet Ramayan, and Tichi Goshta(Her Story), which have been received with great critical acclaim in the USA and India. Shraddha and her students will be presenting her latest dance drama “Shivo-Aham, Shiva the self appeared” , on Friday April 5th, 2013 at Sunnyvale Community Center. In this show, we will discuss basics of Bharatnatyam, Shraddha’s journey as a dancer and her other experiences.

In today’s ChaiTime, @3.00pm KZSU Stanford 90.1FM, we celebrate the long and illustrious careers of two of the stalwarts of Hindi Cinema, Pran and Shamshad Begum. Pran was known for his wide variety of character roles and Shamshad begum for her distinct voice as a playback singer. In 2013, we lost both the legends, Pran two days back and Shamshad Begum in April. Their work will be cherished forever and may their soul rest in peace.

In this Chaitime show we talk to Murali Krishnamurthy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Sankara Eye foundation, and celebrate with him Sankara’s great accomplishment of performing 1 million free eye surgeries in India. More than 40 million people in India suffer from some kind of blindness. Of those, 12 million are totally blind, which means 1/4th of the world’s blind population resides in India. These are incredibly large numbers. Urged by their uncle Late Sri. P. Balasubramaniam, who was a longtime friend and associate of the Sankara Movement, brothers, Murali and Sridharan initiated Sankara Eye Foundation in USA in the year 1998. Since then their progress has been phenomenal: from one eye hospital and 8,000 eye surgeries to 1 million free eye surgeries this year at nine state of the art hospitals all over India. Sankara Eye Foundation is entirely run by volunteers and works in multiple ways to make Sankara’s mission towards eradicating preventable blindness a reality. In this show we talk to Murali K
