Look, we didn’t exactly LOVE the Spider Slayers from way back in the first season of Spider-Man: The Animated Series. And we never really cared THAT much about Alistair Smythe. This episode of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which introduces Big Wheel and Rocket Racer, has been often regarded as one of the show's worst. But it's also one of very few instances of a cartoon then (and even now) directly confronting institutional racism from a Black perspective, and in this case deals with those experiences in a surprisingly pointed and even elegant way.
