In other words, something very positive will typically have far less of an impact on one's behavior and emotions than something equally negative. Theories vary, but most psychologists agree that negativity bias is a derivative of our long-evolved survival instincts. Thus, noticing and appreciating blue skies on a wonderful, warm summer day with friends is far less important to your livelihood than noticing a snake in the grass.
