Dr Ramiz Boulos is a WA scientist, inventor, who is a refugee from Sudan. He was born in Khartoum and fled Sudan and the bloody civil war with his family in 1999 at the age of 17, almost 6 years after applying for refugee status in Australia. He went on to study at Flinders University where he made an antibiotic discovery. The new antibiotic is called Ramizol, which hits antibiotic resistant superbugs, such as those that exist in hospitals around the world.
