In John chapter 9 Jesus accuses the Pharisees of not being able to see what is right in front of their faces, and he says, because of that, their guilt remains. Unlike the physically vision-impaired, these religious leaders are blind to their own blindness--which is about as blind as you can be!--and they are culpable for it.
