New Zealand Football President Deryck Shaw has been caught off guard by Andy Martin's retirement.The NZF CEO announced he'll leave New Zealand Football, despite just last week insisting he's staying.Martin's come under overwhelming pressure following his handling of allegations of a toxic environment being created by Football Ferns coach and NZF technical director Andreas Heraf.Shaw says it was a shock as he also thought Martin would be sticking around."I was surprised but at the same time the board has accepted his resignation and retirement and we wish him all the best."Shaw says the use of the word retire rather than resign has been at Martin's request.He is adamant Martin made his own call and that he was not pushed out."It's his decision.
