Alfred Lord Tennyson famously wrote, “’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” Whether you agree or disagree with this saying, it does reveal something true: sometimes pain is better than no pain. And sometimes love is the cause of that pain. In John 11, Jesus’ ministry comes to a climax of sorts with the raising of Lazarus from the dead, and through this account we can see several facets of the love of Jesus.
