Paul is locked up in prison facing an uncertain future and there are some people around him who are stirring up trouble, trying to jeopardize Paul's life and ministry. Combine this with the challenges facing the believers in Philippi, and the Philippians might have wondered - how is the gospel "good news" for us? Is this religion a blessing or a curse? Were we wrong to put our faith in the apostle Paul, seemingly a powerful leader, and now a lowly prisoner? Perhaps they thought have we suffered so much for nothing? Paul did not hesitate to respond with boldness and confidence - not only has this situation not impeded his mission; it has actually propelled it. Why?
