Physical shivers racked me in the Orange Staging Area on the island. My giant trash bag cut the wind but did little to warm me. I was thankful to have the giant trash bag but would have rather had a full size wool blanket or poncho like Clint Eastwood wore in the spaghetti westerns. Or a down jacket. The temperature was not that bad. It was in the high 30’s Fahrenheit, but the cutting wind dropped the perceived temperature to single digits. I was feeling it. We were ½ mile or so in, still on the upward slope of the bridge with a steady stream of runners. I didn’t want to get in the way of anyone trying to race, but I recognized this as THAT iconic photo that everyone takes from this race and
