Today, Michael Acock speaks in the first week of our Easter 2024 sermon series called "I AM." We will look at the statements through the Bible, especially those in the book of John where Jesus calls himself the I AM. Centuries before these statements were written, God had revealed himself to Moses with the decisive statement “I am” or “I am who I am” in Exodus 3:14. Another way to say this is I will be who I will be. God gives a personal name that conveys His dominion over all things, the source of His power, and His eternal nature: I AM. He is the self-sufficient, self-sustaining God who was, who is, and who will be. Throughout the OT, others added to his name “I am (translated Jehovah or Lord) by adding names that clarified his character, such as Jehovah-Jireh (my provider), Jehovah Rapha (the Lord heals), Jehovah Nissi (the Lord my banner), Jehovah Shalom (the Lord our peace), Jehovah Raah (the Lord my shepherd), and more.
