Sinopsis
World War II was very much a "coming out" for the men and missions of today's U.S. Air Force (USAF). Led by legendary airpower pioneers like Hap Arnold, Curtis LeMay and Jimmy Dolittle, the Army Air Force (AAF) of the 1940s grew by leaps and bounds in the 1940s, into the most destructive fighting force in history. But the majority of the fighting and dying was done by a young AAF officers who came of age in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Three of the most outstanding of these young officers were Paul Tibbets, "Dutch" Van Kirk, and Thomas Ferebee, who flew on the very first strategic bombing mission into France in 1942, and were part of the crew of the B-29 Superfortress "Enola Gay" which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima in August 1945. The story of these three amazing young man is both compelling and historic, and worthy of a good book. To learn more about the men known as "the Three Musketeers of the AAF", tune into this week's edition of Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the Writestream Radio
