While most of the world is nervously watching terrorism news from Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia, savvy analysts and military professionals are watching the Western Rim of the Pacific region where tensions with the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) have been rising. Within a region known as the "9 Dash Line." China has been building a series of small island bases that include sensors, armed garrisons, along with airfields capable of operating fighters and large transport aircraft. Many observers see this as an act of regional aggression by the PRC, and have begun to react directly to Chinese harassment of aircraft and ships operating in what they consider "international waters." Most recently, the United States has begun to conduct "Freedom of Navigation" operations around these islands, arousing both anger and strong verbal reactions by the Chinese.
