Paul experienced much opposition in his life and ministry. He knew rejection from outside the church and desertion from within. What brought Paul through all of this was the consciousness of Christ's presence with him, strengthening him. Practicing God's presence is essential for every child of God, but it is also a remedy for chronic loneliness, which is at epidemic proportions in our society. In 2 Timothy 4:16-18, Paul reports that the Lord rescued him from 'the lion's mouth' and would bring him 'safely into his heavenly kingdom'.
