Sinopsis

SMART has a simple concept. This nonprofit organization pairs up adults to volunteer with children for 2 one-on-one 30-minute reading sessions. The volunteers model for the children just how fun reading can be and support the children's efforts to read independently. The intention of SMART is to provide a literacy experience that entices children into books and reading, supports children’s efforts to learn to read and celebrates their successes. The SMART program complements reading curriculum and instruction and is intended to build confident, lifelong readers who enjoy reading and use it as a tool for learning. I had a great time learning about what the SMART program is doing to make a positive difference in the world. Specifically with helping improve the reading abilities for children in the State of Oregon.
