Elijah is so worn out he asks God to let him die. God doesn't question him first, but feeds him without requiring Elijah to explain. This Sunday sits with that same rhythm found throughout Matthew 14, Jesus draws away to pray alone on the hillside while his disciples are sent out onto a storm-tossed sea, and when Peter's courage gives out and he starts to sink, Jesus doesn't correct him first, he grabs him.
