Even Variety seemed caught off guard when I Can Only Imagine was outdone in this weekend’s ticket sales only by Black Panther and Tomb Raider, with a per-screen average much higher than either Wakanda’s ongoing bid to monopolize America’s moviegoing attention forever or Lara Croft’s return to the multiplex hunger games.
