The husband is called to be the spiritual leader of his marriage and family. This is why when the wife in Song of Songs sings about her husband, she sings about his strength. How can a man lead well? By not only being a husband and lover, but by being a friend (cf. verse 16) to his wife, supporting her and guiding her.
