Our society loves to idolize celebrities for their good looks, for their fame and fortune. Sports figures get adulation from fans for being winners, especially MVP’s. Sadly this behavior can creep over into the church. We like certain Christian leaders and preachers for the same reasons we like rock stars. We are influenced by the externals as opposed to more importantly what is in their hearts. Jesus faced this same problem when he made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. He was not everyone’s idea of a King. Yet he was truly Israel’s MVP. Like the crowd, do you ever wish Jesus was a different kind of King?
