Almost 58 years ago Martin Luther King Jr. gave his most famous speech, declaring the words, “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last.” We would all like to think and believe that we are free. After all, we live in a… free country, don’t we? Equality, respect and kindness should certainly be wonderful signs of freedom. But for all of us, especially with what we’ve experienced this past year, freedom means being free from what? Others’ opinions? Family decisions? The government’s regulations? We all tend to be held captive by other things… like desires, appetites and habits… like worries, fears and pandemics. What if we could be free from those kinds of things and more? What if we could experience true freedom?
