Yom Kippur is the most holy day of the year because the entire day is spent fasting, praying and repenting of our sins. We can repent out of love for the God of Israel because we don’t want to hurt his heart.We can repent out of the fear or reverence for the God of Israel because we don’t want to face the consequences. And, we can repent to the God of Israel because we don’t want to through the pain and suffering that the consequences of sin brings into our lives. The Rabbis teach that Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement only reconciles man unto to the God of Israel, but that it does not deal with sin between the brethren. Yeshua taught that before we approach the God of Israel, that we need to be reconciled to our brother. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way.
