Sinopsis
And now, as we reflect on Jesus’ first sermon let’s consider his message. Notice that Jesus establishes his mission statement through five key objectives. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. The five operative words of Jesus mission statement include preaching (the gospel), proclaiming (freedom), recovering (sight), releasing (those in bondage) and proclaiming (the year of the Lord’s favor); all have to do with freedom, redemption and restoration of humanity. Jesus came to restore that which was lost in the fall. He came to take away the sins of the world that man might live the abundant life. Let us follow in Jesus in his ministry of freedom, redemption and restoration.
