James is a very provoking and stirring book. His style is punchy and it can take time to let his words settle and fully appreciate the implication of what he is saying. His opening words are no exception, he starts with an outrageous statement, 'count it all joy, when you meet trials of various kinds!' James says that these trials can become stepping-stones to maturity, if we respond in the right way. He then unpacks his logic, shares a practical example and highlights some dangers that we can fall into.
