When they arrive on the scene the estate is a hive of activity as wagon are being loaded with all manner of supplies but mostly food and water. Apher explains that Venta Icenorum, a town to the north, has had an outbreak of plague and is being quarantined. His brother in law is the doctor there and he wants the supplies taken immediately to help relieve the town. The trip North takes two days and turns out to be quite pleasant and uneventful. When approaching the town however the smell of death and decay hangs in the air. There are bodies of civilians and legionaries littered outside the city. The centurion of the legion recognizes Doreena and Herminius and explains that some of the soldiers staged a rebellion along with some of the townsfolk in
