How to Survive an Extended Stay in a Hospital   It was three days after Christmas, December 28, 2017.  I was just about to go to bed and I fell violently ill.   I started having severe pain in my abdomen and even though I had vomited, I was still in some serious pain.  I was also having trouble breathing and nothing was subsiding and I knew I was in trouble.  My boyfriend had gone home to sleep at his apartment that evening.  Fortunately, we live in the same complex, but didn't want to wake him until he was up for work, which is unusually early, 4:30 AM.  I phoned him at 5:00 AM and told him how badly I felt and asked him if he would drive me to the emergency room.  Thankfully the hospital was a close ride from home.   I knew I wasn't going to get better until I went to the emergency room at the hospital to find out what was wrong with me.
