In Philippians 3:14, the apostle Paul spoke of "pressing on toward the goal, to win the prize for which God has called [him] heavenward in Christ Jesus." Improperly interpreted, we may mistakenly think this means our salvation is dependent on our own striving. But "try harder" is not the message of the Gospel. Bishop Ken Ross focuses on this chapter of Paul's letter to remind us that the "goal" is not attaining our own salvation, but rather to live into what we have already attained - our life as a new creation in Christ Jesus. "You've been made a new creation.
