The Beit Hillel Theater Workshop at Hebrew University of Jerusalem had auditioned and planned to put on the first production of the popular musical Fame last September. But the war stopped it, mainly because much of the cast was drafted to fight. But now, they have returned and will be performing the over two-hour show from May 26th through June 3rd. The International Court of Justice is weighing South Africa's request to impose a new emergency provision ordering Israel to halt it military operations in Rafah. The court held hearings last week on the request, which is part of an ongoing case brought by Pretoria accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention in its war against Hamas in Gaza.  Israel has lambasted South Africa  over what it termed Pretoria’s “outrageous distortions” of the truth and “abuse” of the court’s procedures. The operation in Rafah has  produced tension with Egypt, which announced earlier in the week that it would be joining South Africa’s ICJ suit against Israel. Independence Day is the day the Israel Prize is handed out. This year’s recipient of the Israel Prize for Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation is being awarded to Eyal Waldman. One of the leading entrepreneurs in Israel, he was the founder of Mellanox, which produces components for high speed communication networks.  Waldman has been a harsh critic of the government and even more so since his daughter Danielle was murdered at the massacre at the Nova Party on October 7th. Education Minister Yoav Kish tried to keep the prize from Waldman, but he pushed ahead to receive the award. He spoke with reporter Arieh O’Sullivan about his efforts and his vision for Israel. In her book, "Be Careful What You Wish For," author Michal Zohar Ben-Dor explores the question "what if." In this case, the question is what if a deceased loved one were alive. The seed for the story draws from the author's own life. Her father died in an accident during his IDF reserve service when she was 14 years old. The organization Our Brothers was founded by and for bereaved siblings. Its activities throughout the year provide support frameworks to the siblings, and engage in projects and initiatives to honor the memories of their loved ones. Relationships are often forged across different generations of loss within the community. A recent commemorative song project involving bereaved siblings of fallen soldiers from the 1973 Yom Kippur war connected with the experience of brothers and sisters whose siblings fell in the ongoing Iron Swords war.
