  • 419: Coffee With Sean and Ben: Travel, Filmmaking, & Mastermind Groups

    24/04/2019 Duración: 55min

This is a more casual version of our regular show. Normally, we stick pretty strictly to a pre-planned topic. Coffee With Sean and Ben is more casual. If you've listened to the “Pre Show” that we stream to members, before we start the official show, it's like that: fun and casual. It's not unlike the coffee meetings Ben and I have together. We catch up with what’s going on in each other’s lives, share behind the scenes stuff, and have a good time. With our topical shows, there’s not much time to share what’s going on or what’s on our minds. The “coffee” format gives us time to share more of what we’re thinking about as well as respond to things like listener feedback (should you send any). Members listening live voted on the topics they wanted us to cover. As a result, we discussed the following topics: • Travel • Filmmaking • Mastermind Groups

  • 418: How to Deal With Haters

    17/04/2019 Duración: 01h41min

What will other people think? What if they say hurtful things? Being on the receiving end of hate sucks. I've been there before. All of the things you know to be true ("It's not you, it's them!") start to feel like trite, meaningless phrases. You feel empty inside and nothing seems to console. Worse, because this experience you've had is so devastating, it can cause you to be cynical and fearful. Now, you expect the worst at every turn and can't bring yourself to put yourself out there anymore. Or at least if you do, you hold back in subtle ways. I received a comment recently from someone who admitted to being jaded and having an attitude of cynicism because of past negative experiences. They now expect the worst of everyone and expect people to be horrible. Obviously, this is crippling. You can't move forward in this state. You have to find a way to heal from the wound and learn to deal with negativity because it's a part of success. Attempting to isolate yourself from it isn't the solution. Whether you

  • 417: Behind the Scenes With Sean

    10/04/2019 Duración: 20min

Hey, it's Sean McCabe here with a solo show. It's been a heck of a past couple weeks. All kinds of crazy stuff seemed to conspire to keep us from being able to record! From power outages, to equipment failure, one thing after another fell through and we had to skip several recordings. We'll be back soon with the Sean and Ryan Show! Ben and I also have several great episodes lined up for you. I explain a bit more in the episode. That's part of why I'm doing a solo show today to make sure there's a show for you. I also have a topic for today: comparing. I know I shouldn't do it, but I still catch myself comparing to others from time to time. I share my thoughts on why you shouldn't compare to other people (and the one thing you should compare to). I also talk about how I'm expanding the podcast by including occasional interviews. You may have heard the interview episode last week. I look forward to your feedback on this. Finally, I share some thoughts on how I think the 2020 Sabbatical Year will go.

  • 416: Overcome Insecurity and Imposter Syndrome: The Alter Ego Effect With Todd Herman

    03/04/2019 Duración: 01h58min

I recently read The Alter Ego Effect by Todd Herman and found it tremendously insightful. The book helped unlock new ideas for me as well as helped codify something I've done for a long time without ever having the words to describe it. Today, I'm happy to be joined by best-selling author of The Alter Ego Effect, Todd Herman to go even deeper on the concepts discussed in the book. I had the privilege of meeting Todd in person a few years ago in New York City. His latest book teaches the methods he's used to coach top athletes for many years. Before you think "alter egos" may not be for you, Todd explains how you already use alter egos in your life—everyone does—you just may not be aware of it! Alter egos are incredibly powerful. We talk about how using a persona can help you do what you might otherwise feel like you aren't capable of doing. We discuss certain methods for unlocking hidden potential by activating a persona. We also discuss how to create your persona along with "activation" techniques for emb

  • 415: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 6: Imagination

    28/03/2019 Duración: 01h20min

Today we're talking about imagination. The book differentiates between "Synthetic Imagination" and "Creative Imagination". There are some amazing stories in this chapter about the value of ideas. > Keep in mind as you follow these principles, that the entire story of how one may convert DESIRE into money cannot be told in one statement. The story will be complete, only when one has MASTERED, ASSIMILATED, and BEGUN TO MAKE USE of all the principles. We'll also discuss why desire alone is nebulous and of no value until it is made physical. > Desire is only a thought, an impulse. It is nebulous and ephemeral. It is abstract, and of no value, until it has been transformed into its physical counterpart. You must have a plan in place to carry out your desire. We'll talk about a story in this chapter that highlights the importance of specifying the amount of TIME in which you will realize a desired result. > Transformation of the intangible impulse, of DESIRE, into the tangible reality, of MONEY, calls for th

  • 414: What I Wish I Knew Before Hiring a Team

    27/03/2019 Duración: 01h58min

I believe in the saying, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." If I want to do great things (and I do), I need a team. I didn't always believe this. I used to have "superhero" syndrome and wanted to do everything myself. That wasn't a good place to be. I learned that lesson, overcame my ego, and hired a team. But in doing so, I made a lot of mistakes in what has been a decade-long correction process. I went from no team to a team of 8 full-time people in little time. Every mistake I made was as a result of following [the right advice at the wrong time]. "Delegate! Hire people to do the things you're not good at. Hire people to do the things you don't like to do." I did that. I followed all of the advice. Only, I missed the biggest part that no one ever spoke about, and it became my downfall. Here's the problem: the advice about building a team comes from people who have built a team and forgotten what it's like to not have a team. As a result, all of the advice becomes

  • 413: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 5: Specialized Knowledge

    21/03/2019 Duración: 01h05min

There are two kinds of knowledge: 1. General Knowledge 2. Specialized Knowledge > General knowledge, no matter how great in quantity or variety it may be, is of but little use in the accumulation of money. Many people believe "knowledge is power". But that is not the case. Knowledge is only potential power. > It becomes power only when, and if, it is organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end. > This "missing link" in all systems of education known to civilization today, may be found in the failure of educational institutions to teach their students HOW TO ORGANIZE AND USE KNOWLEDGE AFTER THEY ACQUIRE IT. Ford was criticized for not knowing the answer to a particular question. He shot back, "Why should I clutter up my mind with general knowledge for the purpose of being able to answer questions, when I have men around me who can supply any knowledge I require?" Ford had his own personal "Google" before Google existed. > Any man is educated who knows where to get knowledge

  • 412: Finding Your Purpose

    20/03/2019 Duración: 01h37min

How do you find your purpose? Is that something you should even worry about? Do you find it, or does it find you? You're probably in one of two places: You may be eagerly searching for your purpose. You want to find meaning and something that will pull you out of bed in the morning. Or... You may be completely overwhelmed at the thought of finding your purpose right now. You feel like you can barely function as a human and take care of basic things. The very idea of finding your purpose may fill you with existential dread. To set the stage, we'll begin the show with a discussion around Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: 1. Physiological 2. Safety 3. Love and Belonging 4. Esteem 5. Self-Actualization You may have seen these five stages arranged in the shape of a pyramid with Self-Actualization being the fifth and final stage at the top of the pyramid. Finding your purpose falls squarely within Self-Actualization. If you aren't getting your basic, physiological needs taken care of, it's impossible to adequat

  • 411: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 4: Auto-Suggestion

    14/03/2019 Duración: 01h03min

Auto-suggestion is the medium for influencing the subconscious mind. It is self suggestion. It is how to change your mindset. When you influence the mind by auto-suggestion, you influence your thoughts. Unhappy with the thoughts you think? Change your mindset with auto-suggestion. Follow the instructions in this chapter. The book tells you, "You cannot get something for nothing. You must pay the price.", but still there are those who pay no attention to the instructions. Skeptical people think they're clever when they say, “I read these magic words aloud... am I rich now? Huh??” They would do well to actually read the book! > If you choose to follow some of the instructions but neglect, or refuse to follow others--you will fail! To get satisfactory results, you must follow ALL instructions in a spirit of FAITH. Most people who read this book fail because they refuse to follow all of the instructions. We dare you to actually follow the instructions instead of picking and choosing selectively which of the

  • 410: Let’s Talk About Hustle

    13/03/2019 Duración: 01h35min

"Hustle" had its heyday for a few years. Put your head down and work hard, people said. It's well-meaning advice: you won't find someone successful who didn't work hard. Period. Full stop. But something else is happening in culture right now: we're seeing a rise in burnout. At the very least, we're seeing an increase in people's willingness to talk about burnout and what seems to be a greater focus on sustainability and balance. This is a good thing. The simplest explanation would be to believe that "hustle" is the cause of burnout. Therefore, "hustle" is the problem, and anyone who promotes it is the enemy. You might have already guessed: the real story is much more complicated. To say you either "hustle" or you care about your health and your family is to create a false dichotomy. As someone who for 10 years worked 18-hour days, 7 days a week, and who now takes off every seventh week as a sabbatical, I am uniquely qualified to address both sides of this topic. In today's episode, we discuss where "hust

  • 409: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 3: Faith

    07/03/2019 Duración: 01h37min

Chapter 3 of Think and Grow Rich talks about faith and emotionalized belief. Repetition of thought alone is not enough. You must also mix in feelings: > ALL THOUGHTS WHICH HAVE BEEN EMOTIONALIZED, (given feeling) AND MIXED WITH FAITH, begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart. What you think and what you believe matters: > If you think you are beaten, you are, > If you think you dare not, you don't > If you like to win, but you think you can't, > It is almost certain you won't. > The man who wins is the man who thinks he can. You create your own luck: > …the subconscious mind will translate into its physical equivalent, a thought impulse of a negative or destructive nature, just as readily as it will act upon thought impulses of a positive or constructive nature. This accounts for the strange phenomenon which so many millions of people experience, referred to as 'misfortune,' or 'bad luck. > There are millions of people who BELIEVE themselves 'doomed' to po

  • 408: How to Escape From the Introvert Cave

    06/03/2019 Duración: 01h12min

We recorded episode 405 recently (which was titled, [“I want to share myself with the world, but I also kind of want to live in a cave”]), and there were a lot of questions we didn't get a chance to answer. We decided to break the into two episodes. Today's episode is a continuation of e405. How did I go from 6-year-old Sean, who stood behind the door the entire class, to the Sean today who's on video and live streaming three times a week and recording himself on video? How does that happen? We also talk about the fear of putting yourself out there. What will people say? What if you're wrong? What if they disagree? What if you get haters?

  • 407: 2020 Sabbatical Year

    27/02/2019 Duración: 14min

2020 is my sabbatical year. I take off every seventh year, and 2020 will be my first seventh year sabbatical since starting in 2014. I'm taking the whole year off, and as per the only rule of sabbaticals, I have no definite plans. I have a lot of ideas of things I might do, but I'm not scheduling anything for the sabbatical. Taking a year off is maybe the scariest thing this recovered workaholic has done. But in recent years, that fear has turned into excitement, and I'm really looking forward to the experience. One of our Community members asked, "What is Ben going to do on your year off? I'm going to miss these weekly live shows." It sounds like it may be Ben's first time really thinking about it. We talk about what might happen. Will we continue the show? Will Ben record without me? What's going to happen? I know myself well enough to know that I will want to document my journey of taking a year off. However I decide to document the sabbatical year, you'll find any new blog posts, videos, or whatever

  • 406: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich – Chapter 2: Desire

    21/02/2019 Duración: 01h42min

"Every human being who reaches the age of understanding of the purpose of money, wishes for it." Chapter 2 of Think and Grow Rich talks about desire. This chapter focuses on translating desire into reality. The book get straight to the point on providing 6 methods for transmuting desire into its financial equivalent. They're endorsed by Thomas Edison, if you needed any social proof. But this is where the book leaves behind people who are confused about money. There are those who think it is wrong to desire money. They've been taught to be poor and to detest the pursuit of money. They were taught that money is evil. Money is only a multiplier of purpose. If you don't want money, you don't care about your purpose. Money = impact = leverage = time = freedom. Want more time with your family? You desire riches. Want more freedom in how much you work—as well as where and when? You desire riches. Want to make a difference in the lives of your family, community, and causes you care about? You desire riches.

  • 405: “I want to share myself with the world, but I also kind of want to live in a cave.”

    20/02/2019 Duración: 01h21min

Ahh, my fellow introvert. How I love thee. I know you well. At age 6, I used to stand behind the classroom door to avoid having to interact with the other kids. At age 30, I can't say my love of solitude has ever gone away. In fact, I enjoy my peace and quiet all the more. But things have changed. I stream three live shows each week. I record myself on video every day. I speak in front of crowds. I actually pay money and go out of my way to attend conferences with hundreds, and even thousands, of people. Why, oh why, would I ever do such a thing? This is what more than one of our listeners have wondered for themselves. Specifically, they say something like this: "Sean, I have a message. I want to share myself with the world, but I also kind of want to live in a cave. What in the world do I do?" I feel you. If there was ever anything I empathized with, it's the notion of wanting to stay out of the limelight while at the same time feeling a burning desire to share my message. This episode is a fun ride

  • 403: My New Big 10X Goal

    13/02/2019 Duración: 01h44min

I just got back from 10X Growth Conference 2019. I'm feeling invigorated and on-fire. It's no hyperbole that the talks were life-changing for me. I had 3 major revelations, and I'm going to share them in today's show. If you're ever wondered, "What the point of conferences? I don't really see the value..." it's about to become abundantly clear. Today, I'm going to share ALL of it—including my new big 10X goal.

  • 402: Sean and Ryan Show: Think and Grow Rich Book Club

    07/02/2019 Duración: 54min

This is the first episode of a new weekly show with Sean (that's me) and Ryan McCabe. I always enjoy my conversations with Ryan. In early January of 2019, I called him for a specific reason, but our discussion expanded into something bigger, as it often does. Ryan is going to be great. You'll know this as soon as you hear him speak. Yet, Ryan and I rarely ever spoke with each other, save for the occasional text message! Unless there was a specific reason to call, we didn't often see each other outside holidays with the family. I wanted to change that. I asked Ryan if he would like to have a weekly call. Only good things can come of it, I said. He agreed. I recognize greatness in Ryan and I want to document what will undoubtedly be his meteoric rise. I also want to have someone like him in my life on a regular and frequent basis. I make a point to get around people with a positive mindset. When I realized 99% of what we say on our phone calls would be valuable to anyone listening in, I asked Ryan if he w

  • 401: The Numbers Don’t Matter

    06/02/2019 Duración: 01h24min

So you're not getting enough views, likes, or followers. Well, how many do you want? It's a question worth considering seriously. If you could name a number right this moment—how many likes do you want on your posts? How many followers or subscribers? What about views? You may have never stopped to think about exactly what you want. I truly believe you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. The first thing is to get extremely clear about what you want. But the second, and even more important thing, to ask yourself is "Why?" Why do you want more? Maybe a better way of thinking about it is: what do you believe those numbers would say about you? What do you think they would mean about you? Would it mean you matter? Would it confirm you have an impact? Would it make you feel important? You may have 278 followers right now. You may get 36 views. Your posts may get 2 likes. What does that mean? What does that say about you? Should you change your behavior? I'm asking more questions than I'm answering i

  • 400: How to Have a Positive Mindset No Matter Your Circumstances

    30/01/2019 Duración: 01h10min

What an amazing episode! We celebrated 400 episodes with a show on positive mindset. I couldn't think of a better special guest than my brother, Ryan McCabe. You will not soon forget this show. I was also incredibly excited to announce in this episode that Ryan and I are starting a new weekly podcast together next month! The episodes will come out on the same seanwes podcast feed you're already subscribed too. We're starting the new show off with a book club on the book, Think and Grow Rich. You won't want to miss it.
