  • Trans Sporter Rm 49 Lamont, HBO, SCOTUS

    23/09/2020 Duración: 40min

Karleigh and Dawn reflect on the big stories this week: After 101 days of silence, Connecticut's governor tells the Trump administration and Betsy DeVos to butt out and leave the state's school children alone. As Karleigh reported, Ned Lamont spoke strongly in opposition to discrimination, months after being noncommittal in the face of threats to cut education funding. Also, Dawn reported exclusively in Outsports about HBO's decision to pull a story about the debate over trans student athlete inclusion. The network spiked its story just a few hours after Real Sports correspondent Bernie Goldberg took part in a heated interview with Dawn, who has behind the scenes details of this breaking news. Plus, we talk politics in the wake of the death of Supreme Court associate justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Finally, Karleigh has a new streaming recommendation and Dawn invites listeners to join her Thursday night to watch the first season of Star Trek Discovery on CBS-TV for free! • Five Rings To Rule Them All, Episode 42 - Richard Grenell on banning Iran from the Olympics

    21/09/2020 Duración: 24min

Navid Afkari was murdered by Iran's government on Sept. 12 because he dared say a negative word about the Iranian regime. He had also been accused of killing someone during a protest, but his admission to the crime, as well as the accounts of alleged eye witnesses, were clearly coerced. Former Ambassador to Germany and Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell was among a chorus of people, including the International Olympic Committee, who called for Iran to spare Afkari's life. Afkari was a national champion wrestler. Grenell joins us this week to talk about his support for an Olympic ban for Iran, based on Afkari's murder and a long history of human rights abuses. Grenell has been a champion of LGBTQ rights internationally and is an advisor to the RNC." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • 3 Strikes, You're Out #44: The Roof is On Fire with Brian Bell

    18/09/2020 Duración: 54min

I don't know if anyone's pointed it out yet but this year is kinda weird. And baseball is certainly not immune to the horrors, the strangeness, and the almost violent stupidity of 2020. And since I've used all those words in the first two sentences of the intro, you can probably guess that we're talking about Rob Manfred again. Sigh. 'Twas ever thus. This week, I'm joined by fellow Outsports maven Brian Bell (LGBT in the Ring) who, as a resident of Portland, is uniquely qualified to react viscerally to the Mariners and A's playing a damn doubleheader in what appeared to be the magma chamber of Mount St. Helens. Sweet jesus, Mr. Commissioner, can't you at least pretend to care about the well being of your players?! I think we all know the answer to that one. Brian is also here to mourn his World Series hangover victim Nationals and toast his playoff-bound Rays. I guarantee you that we namecheck more Tampa Bay players on this episode than ESPN has mentioned all year. Maybe all decade. Finally, because every pod

  • 3 Strikes, You're Out #43: #GayCubsTwitter Angst with Ryan Thomure

    11/09/2020 Duración: 51min

The Cubs are in first place. And have been since the first week of the season. So if you have any Cub fans in your life, you know what that means... PANIC!!!!! This week, I'm joined for a 50 minute freakout by friend of the pod and fellow member of #GayCubsTwitter Ryan Thomure (Cubs Insider). To be sure, there are good things to celebrate! Yu Darvish has been every bit as amazing in real life as he is in GIF form. Jason Heyward's impressiveness at bat finally matches his impressiveness as a person. Ian Happ and Kyle Hendricks are doing their thing. Except you know how the Cubs' motto this year has been "Get on the bus?" Turns out for way too many guys, it's a struggle bus. Javy, KB, even Rizzo recently...has somebody considered reminding the Cubs' core that they're good at baseball? Because it looks like they forgot. We also dig into David Ross's lineup weirdness and the front office falling behind the curve in player development. It's...a lot. Enjoy the two of us laying our baseball neuroses bare for your en

    09/09/2020 Duración: 01h54min

Hello, Lovelies! Brian rings in 50 episodes by recapping AEW's All Out event with Fanbyte's Colette Arrand. The event featured superb clashes between Jon Moxley & MJF, Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa and FTR & Kenny Omega/Adam Page. But the show's detriments, including AEW's mismanagement of a scary Matt Hardy injury and Jim Ross dropping some casual misogyny on commentary, may prove more memorable. • 3 Strikes, You're Out #42: OK Blue Jays, Let's Play OK! with A.J. Andrews

    04/09/2020 Duración: 48min

You've got a diamond, you've got nine men You've got a hat and a bat and that's not all... For the first time since 2016, you've got a contending Toronto Blue Jays team! Thanks to the rules of pandemic baseball, the Blue Jays' contention window has opened up at bit early and Jays podcaster A.J. Andrews (Locked On Blue Jays) stops by to celebrate. As expected, Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr have been pretty stellar (when healthy). But all of a sudden, the Jays are being led by the power of Teoscar Hernández. His dad didn't even play in MLB or make the Hall of Fame! Is that even ALLOWED? We also look back on the Thom Brennaman fiasco and talk about the honest work that he needs to do to improve himself and show the LGBTQ community he understands how many people he hurt with his words. Furthermore, we look at our own teams' history with homophobic incidents and reflect on how that makes cheering for them unnecessarily hard at times. On a lighter note, keep your ears peeled to hear me unknowi
