  • The Trans Sporter Room Ep135 -- Natalie Washington and Football v. Transphobia: Earning Promotion

    11/05/2022 Duración: 01h19min

The Beautiful Game. The World's Game. Football, or Soccer to us North American types has not only been a vehicle of entertainment, but has often been a vessel for advocacy, activism, protest and progress. From anti-racist and anti-fascist efforts born of the 1980s and 1990s to the more recent struggle between democratization and unfettered monetization of the sport, the pitch has often been political. In 2010, Football v. Homophobia was started in response to the sporting culture that was seen as unwelcoming, especially in the sports ancestral home, Britain. The effort, much like the Kick It Out anti racism movement a generation before spread across world. In 2019, a effort along this same line was started, Football v. Transphobia. The goal is to make a dent in growing transphobia within the UK, that was showing up on the street as well as the stadium terraces. She wrote of a person who found acceptance between the blue lines, and comrades in the creases. Those comrades include those in the Team Trans Hockey locker room. McLean sat down with Karleigh Webb to talk about her story, her Boston Bruins, and her view of what we are seeing. This conversation came as the larger issues loomed with gathering storm clouds with the news of the leak on a U.S. Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade that could greatly change the structure of life for a lot o
