  • BONUS: Women Should Be Talking More About This (A Conversation with YARLAP Founder MaryEllen Rieder)

    18/01/2021 Duración: 33min

In this BONUS episode we’re talking about pelvic floor health, which is something I’ve been wanting to talk about on the show for a long time. I REALLY wish women talked more about this topic with one another, and understand the effects of pelvic floor health on our overall health, including our sex lives and incontinence. My guest is MaryEllen Reider, co-creator of the women’s wellness device YARLAP. The YARLAP is an FDA-approved device, and it recently won an Women’s Health FEMTECH award. (Please note: I have not tried it yet.) We talk about the importance of pelvic floor, what is happening in your body when you orgasm (or don’t), when you can’t control your urge to urinate, and more. MaryEllen offered a discount code to listeners, (enter Joy at checkout for 30% off) but I want to be clear that this is not sponsored, nor is it a partnership or affiliate. I just wanted to start this conversation among women. Learn more about Yarlap here. Follow @yarlap_otc on IG FULL SHOW NOTES HERE Follow @10ThingsToTellYo

  • Ep 99: Searching for a Best Friend (A Conversation with Heather Adams)

    12/01/2021 Duración: 51min

This episode is for anything who has gone through a friendship breakup, or who desires finding a best friend as an adult.  Every week on this show I encourage you to take the prompts and topics to a best friend in order to have a deeper conversation and better connection. But what if you don't have a best friend? What if you used to have a best friend but now you don't and that pain still lingers? What if you want a best friend, but have no idea how to find that person? This conversation with Heather Adams about searching for a best friend is tender for both of us. I just became acquainted with Heather in 2020, because she is the CEO and founder of Choice Publicity, the firm helping me with the Share Your Stuff book launch, but when I heard her podcast episode on This Intentional Life about her quest for an adult best friend, I knew I wanted her to talk about it on 10 Things To Tell You.  FULL SHOW NOTES HERE Follow @heatherdixonadams on IG Follow @choicepublicity on IG Listen to This Intentional Life podcast

  • Ep 98: How To Start a Book Club

    05/01/2021 Duración: 45min

This episode is for anyone who wants to start a book club! **Have you purchased my new book Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First? If so, SIGN UP FOR PREORDER BONUSES HERE.** People love the idea of being in a book club, but I think most of us would rather join an already formed group, with procedures in place and a warm and fuzzy vibe already established. But if that isn’t readily available to you, guess what the next best thing is? Start one yourself! GET MY BOOK CLUB BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS HERE It doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task. You don’t have to have a lot of people (really!) and you don’t have to have a perfectly articulated theme or objective. What you want to do is read, and then talk about what you read with someone else. It really is that simple. But beyond that, it’s nice to have some basics: Identify your WHY Choose members wisely Decide on some logistics (like how to choose a book, who leads the discussion) Set expectations early Have your first meeting Adjust as necessary Sure, the

  • Ep 97: Top 10 Takeaways from 2020

    29/12/2020 Duración: 45min

This episode is for anyone reflecting back on this bizarre year and trying to find some silver linings. Well, it’s been a YEAR, right? One for the history books. But in this episode, I’m not looking at what 2020 will mean for the world at large, but I am sharing my top 10 personal takeaways. What I learned in my business, in our family, how we consume entertainment, and so much more. I hope that hearing my main takeaways from this bizarro year makes you think about your own. What you’ll remember, what will never be the same, and the lessons that will bring you closer to the person you want to be. • Ep 96: Book Club's Best Books of the Year 2020

    22/12/2020 Duración: 01h45min

This is always one of my favorite episodes of the year! My real life book club friends Yasmin Dunn and Stephanie Newman-Smith join me for a long and lively conversation about some of our favorite books of 2020. We talk about how the pandemic affected our reading life and why our book club didn’t meet for 7+ months. Before we share some of our favorites, we also use the episode as a bit of stand-in for our regular meeting and you can hear us discuss our December book club pick A Burning by Megha Majumdar. Then we each share 3 or 4 of our favorite books of the year. Because I had already shared most of mine on earlier episodes, I was really excited to hear Yasmin and Stephanie’s picks, since they were outside the box of what we’ve already talked about on the show in the last few months. I do plan to do a BONUS episode in the last few days of the year, talking through a few more interesting books I read in 2020 that didn’t make it into this conversation. 15/12/2020 Duración: 43min

10 prompts for self-reflection or good conversation as we near the end of the year. 2020 was nuts no doubt. There was confusion and loss and frustration and grief. • Ep 94: Don't Be A Zombie (A pep talk for your intuition)

    08/12/2020 Duración: 58min

This episode is for anyone who has struggled in 2020 to listen to their intuition. These words are for myself as much as they are for you. In this year of uncertainty, of noise, of conflict in relationships, of missteps and self-doubt, I have come into this holiday season unable to tap fully into my own intuition. I’m sharing about: WHY we need to listen to our intuition now more than ever HOW to listen to our intuition when we’re new to the practice or need a reset ANXIETY and intuition and how it’s often hard to discern the two (but I have one failsafe method) RELATIONSHIPS and intuition MESSING IT UP and GETTING IT RIGHT Sponsors: BETTERHELP. • Ep 92: Holiday Movies and Holiday Hacks (A conversation with Mary Carver + listener voices!)

    24/11/2020 Duración: 55min

This episode is for anyone who needs to get into the holiday spirit. I’m so excited to kickoff the season by talking about holiday movies with Mary Carver from Hooked on Holiday Movies. But confession: I’ve never watched a Hallmark or Lifetime holiday movie! So everything Mary shares with me is a pleasant surprise, and she might have even convinced me to give these movies a try. However, our conversation is framed around holiday movies, but we actually talk about so much more, including how we talk about romance stories with our children, and also diversity and inclusion in consumer Christmas culture. At the end of the episode, we hear a batch of listener-submitted holiday hacks - everything from keeping track of your gift list to carving out time for yourself. Looking for gift inspiration? My Not A Gift Guide gift guide comes out this week via the Secret Posts. • Ep 91: Mommy Juice Culture and the Sober Mom Squad

    17/11/2020 Duración: 28min

This is an important episode. In this conversation with Emily Lynn Paulson and Celeste Yvonne, we’re discussing the prevalence of the “mommy juice” culture, the jokes, memes, and idea that parenthood requires drinking for survival. Both openly sober for years, Emily and Celeste created the Sober Mom Squad, a community created during the COVID-19 pandemic that hosts weekly free virtual meetings to discuss motherhood and our transitions to new family dynamics and homeschooling. In the episode, Emily and Celeste share their (very different) personal stories, and offer tips and thoughts on coping through a pandemic and during the holiday season without using alcohol. Please note: I am not sober. I drink alcohol. But I have also become concerned with the motherhood culture that pushes drinking as a means to deal with anything hard. I originally recorded this episode as a BONUS, but decided it was such an important topic that I wanted it to land in as many ears as possible. What I’m hoping you’ll hear in this conve

  • Ep 87: 3 Mistakes I've Made Recently

    20/10/2020 Duración: 36min

Mistakes. We’ve all made ‘em. In this episode, I wanted to share 3 mistakes I’ve made recently (personally and professionally) as a jumping off point for talking about missteps, how we corrected them, and what we learned. Of course, not all mistakes are equal. And we don’t always want to harp on things we did wrong. But it can be helpful to hear about other people’s mess ups, and talking about it can hold us accountable for our own actions. Because next time we’ll do it differently. Right? • Ep 86: 10 Thoughts on Therapy

    13/10/2020 Duración: 50min

This episode is for anyone curious about therapy. October is Mental Health Awareness Month, and so I wanted to put together a few thoughts on the number one thing that has helped me navigate my anxiety: talk therapy. I’ve struggled with anxiety since childhood, but I didn’t try therapy until I was 35 years old, and drowning under the weight of new motherhood and postpartum. In this episode, I am sharing 10 thoughts on therapy, including how to find a therapist, how to pay for therapy, and some of the most important things I’ve learned in 6 years of regular therapy after decades of coping with my mental health alone. Please note: I am not an expert of any kind. Please talk to a doctor or medical professional if you are experiencing mental health struggles. This episode is only meant to share my own experience. Also note: I am talking about general talk therapy. And while 2020 has been one of the weirdest years in modern history, we still somehow have normal life things that have slipped through the cracks. Those things that we just keep procrastinating: home improvement, emotional chores, creative projects. These aren’t goals, they’re just tasks, the ones that keep slipping to the bottom of the priority list. Let’s commit to choosing ONE thing we want to get done between now and the end of 2020 and share it as a way to stay accountable.
