  • Announcing #OneDayMay!

    26/04/2021 Duración: 21min

It feels high time for another social media challenge, right? To get us into the habit of sharing ourselves and simply for FUN.  As a spinoff of my popular annual challenge #OneDayHH and last year's quarantine challenge #OneDayCV, I'm introducing #OneDayMAY. Thirty-one mini prompts for every day in the month of May, designed to get us sharing.  Because I believe sharing is the antidote to loneliness and the key to connection. I also know that it doesn't come naturally to everyone. These social media challenges are happy, helpful prompts that get us to show up and be present.  You can view all of the prompts HERE.  I'll also be posting them daily on IG @10ThingsToTellYou And answering them for myself on IG @laura.tremaine See you on social media starting May 1! • Ep 112: Who was there? (A Conversation with Shauna Niequist)

    13/04/2021 Duración: 01h03min

Whenever I hear someone speak of a mentor or extra wise friend, I always think about my relationship with Shauna Niequist. We met working together at a summer camp when we were both young, and she then has offered me truth and guidance for more than two decades. Shauna Niequist is a NYT best-selling author of five books: Cold Tangerines, Bittersweet, Bread & Wine, Savor, and Present Over Perfect. She lives in New York City with her husband Aaron and their two sons. I wrote about Shauna in Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First. in Chapter 2: Who was there? Shauna was there in one of the most important conversations of my life, when I called her heartbroken in Oklahoma and she answered the phone at exactly the right moment in Chicago.  In this episode, we talk about belonging, and magical moments, and books (because we both just love to talk about books). As usual, she left me with several things to ponder after we were done speaking, specifically about what we're actually saying when we share our pain.  Follow

  • Ep 111: Behind-The-Scenes of Publishing, Launching, and Marketing a Book

    06/04/2021 Duración: 01h11min

This episode is for anyone interested in the peek behind the curtain of the book publishing industry.  Back when writing a book was just a dream, I made a promise to myself that if I ever published, I would share the experience openly and candidly. I used to crave all the information about agents and book deals and publicity and marketing and all the things that it seemed like authors very rarely talked about. Back on Ep 73: I wrote a book! I shared about everything I knew up to that point: getting attention from agents, shopping a book proposal, and, of course, writing and editing my first book. Because I'm now on the other side of the book launch, this episode is a follow up to Ep 73. Here we're going to talk about mostly marketing: Are preorder bonuses a bribe? Is traditional publishing going the way of the dinosaur? Who pays for the publicity? How does getting paid to write a book work? I'm joined for this conversation by my friend Kelly Gordon, because I knew she would be a great person to talk through t

  • BONUS: Before and After the Trailer with Author Mary Marantz

    26/03/2021 Duración: 54min

This is one of the best conversations I’ve had this year with the author of one of the best books I’ve read this year. Mary Marantz is a writer, podcaster, speaker, and the author of the book DIRT: Growing Strong Roots in What Makes the Broken Beautiful. I read this memoir after I appeared on Mary’s podcast The Mary Marantz show and I was blown away by her writing and her story. In our conversation, Mary and I talk about our similarities growing up in the country and then choosing to flee from it, only to discover that our roots will always be a part of our soul. There are so many parts of Mary’s story that I relate to, things that I’ve never said out loud and things that I’ve never seen expressed so beautifully. At one point, I get choked up sharing something that I’ve never shared publicly. I hope you’ll enjoy this special conversation. • Ep 108: Best Books Lately (with Meredith Monday Schwartz and Kaytee Cobb of the Currently Reading podcast)

    16/03/2021 Duración: 01h23min

Not at all sorry to have two books & reading episodes in a row! Especially because my guests for this Best Books Lately conversation are two of my favorites voices in the book-ish world. Meredith Monday Schwartz and Kaytee Cobb are the two women behind the Currently Reading podcast and I think that you will love their varied recommendations in our conversation. (I contribute almost nothing of value to this episode since my reading habits have been so out-of-whack, however I do talk about a few recent best sellers that just didn’t do it for me.) I hope hearing us talk about what books we’ve loved (or haven’t) so far in 2021 will spark your own conversations or that you share on social media. 14/03/2021 Duración: 47min

In March of 2020, just three weeks into the global pandemic bringing Los Angeles to a standstill, we recorded a family episode called Ep 59: Marry the Person You Want to Quarantine With (the Tremaines Wave Hello).  And now we're back....only it's been ONE YEAR of the pandemic and we still haven't returned to school or work full time. Our family (me, my husband Jeff, our 11 year old daughter Lucy, and our 9 year old son Finch) returned to the couch and the microphone to talk about the last year has looked like for us.  We used the loose framework and questions from Episode 106: 10 Questions To Mark One Year of the Pandemic to talk about the challenges of joys of the last twelve months.  I hope that our family conversation sparks one of your own, whether you record it or not.  Further listening: Ep 59: Marry the Person You Want To Quarantine With (The Tremaines Wave Hello) Ep 69: 22+ Things We've Watched During Quarantine FULL SHOW NOTES HERE Sponsors: Listenable. • Ep 107: 10 Reasons to Read (A conversation with Sara Hildreth of @fictionmatters)

    09/03/2021 Duración: 01h19min

Let’s talk about books that are NOT my book! In the last few months while launching my first book Share Your Stuff. I’ll Go First., my personal reading life has taken a major nosedive. For the first time in years, I’ve been unable to focus on reading any sort of fiction with consistency. But after I had this conversation with Sara Hildreth of @fictionmatters and the Novel Pairings podcast, I suddenly had a renewed interest in my favorite hobby of all time: READING! Sara just brings that out in people. In this conversation, Sara and I each share 5 reasons we read fiction, why it has matters to us personally and how it changes the world. I just loved chatting with her and we could have talked for hours. I hope this episode makes you run to your bookshelves or sparks a great conversation about why reading fiction matters to YOU. • Ep 102: Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First.

    02/02/2021 Duración: 24min

My first book Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First. launches into the world this week!  This book was born out of this podcast. So if you enjoy this show, you will LOVE the book version.  I think it will spark deeper connections in your conversations and meaningful introspection within yourself.  But as much as I talk about SHARING on this show....I'm ready to talk a little bit about the STUFF part of "Share Your Stuff."  Because we all have baggage. Pain. Traumas. Triumphs.  And on this episode, I'm dipping into a few very vulnerable things that have happened to me over the last ten years that led me to a place to write this book. Times when I've been knocked down for my sharing. When I questioned myself because someone told me to be smaller.  This isn't something I've ever talked about online, but I think it is time to share it now. • Ep 101: What are you afraid of? (A FREE audiobook chapter from Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First. + an excerpt from the foreward by Jenna Fischer)

    26/01/2021 Duración: 39min

This is an extra special episode, because I'm giving you a FREE chapter from my new book Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First.  In Share Your Stuff, I'll Go First., each chapter asks one BIG question (a lot like this show!) and then I answer the question in essay form.  Chapter 3 asks: What are you afraid of? I know this is a deep question to dig in on, and not every single question in the book requires vulnerability. But if I only let you read one thing, I wanted it to be about your fears. Because a lot of us have lived with a lot of fear in the past year, and naming it makes it less scary.  This chapter will also be a good sample of what to expect in Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First., which releases on 2/2. BONUS: There's also an excerpt in this episode of the foreward to the book, written and read by my friend Jenna Fischer.  Buy Share Your Stuff.
