In many respects, the Christian life is a battle. And we all have one common enemy in that battle, the devil. This devil is doing all he can to destroy us, and so God (through 1 Peter 5:8-14) gives us some very important instructions for how to fight and win this battle against our spiritual foe. Unfortunately, in our day and age, the role of wives and women has been grossly undervalued. The Lord wants us all to begin valuing the beautiful role of wives, because they are a precious gift from Him to husbands. The beauty, value and confidence of a godly wife will live on into eternity, and that is a beauty worth investing in. And as usual, the Lord Jesus is the reason and motivation to do so. Being born of God is special privilege, and sometimes we lose sight of how special it really is to be a citizen of Heaven. The Apostle Peter seeks to exhort us to live honorably and humbly upon this earth and make ourselves willing servants of God because of all we have waiting for us in Heaven, and even to simply represent God well upon this earth for Christ's sake. What is it about Jesus? What makes Him so polarizing? Some follow Jesus with their entire lives unto death and some wanted to kill Him every time He spoke. In this life of uncertainty and suffering, we need something that has real answers and something that can help us know what God expects from us. Thankfully we have the Word of God.
