Joe spoke with the General manager with JLR in Ireland, John Cormican, about how the development of autonomous cars in Ireland is progressing.

Only this week, the environment Minister Eamon Ryan published draft proposals on the economic benefit offshore wind could have for this country. However, engineers are worried that proposals to develop the renewable resource may hamstring companies, wishing to invest in it. Director General of Engineers Ireland, Damien Owens, joined joe to discuss the concerns raised.

Aidan Donnelly from Davy joined Joe to look at what is making the business headlines today.

Whether it was the outrageous practices that caused the financial crisis or the culture of risk-taking with other people’s money or the more recent mortgage tracker scandal, few senior bankers have been held personally responsible. Now a new piece of legislation called the Central Bank (Individual Accountability Framework) Bill hopes to make individuals with banks and financial services companies personally more accountable for the actions of their employers. And it takes a big step towards becoming law next week. Patricia Callan who is the Director of Financial Services Ireland which represents the banks and fintech companies that are based in Ireland and Patricia joined Joe this morning on the show.

How do you feel about being served food by a robot or a mobile tray without anyone actually pushing it? Automated service is likely to increase in the future as restaurants look to save money on waiting staff. The good news is that the global tally for ransomware attacks fell slightly last year by 4%. The bad news is that the time it takes for cyber criminals to complete their attacks has also fallen from months to only days. Finding a so-called ‘back door’ is now by far the most popular route for attackers to find a weakness in company systems. For more on this Joe was joined on the show by Mary O’Brien, General Manager of IBM Security Software.

What started off in the 1970s with a brand-new drink called Baileys, has become a global success story with lots of imitations. Irish Cream liqueur may only be described as such if it’s made on this island with Irish whiskey and Irish fresh cream. But knockoffs from all over the world are being sold and it could affect Irish dairy farmers and Irish producers. So that’s why Drink Ireland has launched a new campaign called Explore Irish Cream. For those of us older than 35, the word Nokia was synonymous with mobile phones. The Finnish brand was far and away the biggest phone maker in the world - until 2007 when Apple literally destroyed its sales. Nokia mobile phones are back but owned and made by a very different - non-Finnish company. Joining Joe this morning to discuss was Jess Kelly our Technology. Correspondent.

As an industry, the legal profession is not famed for its rapid change. There are still practitioners who wear horse-hair wigs and gowns in court, even though there is no obligation to do so. But change is afoot. There are more judges on the way which should speed up proceedings and legal aid is set to be reformed, which should give more people access to the courts than is currently the case.
