Sinopsis

Humanize. Educate. Elevate. Conversations on the reentry process of the formerly incarcerated. Author and scholar Michelle Alexander said that, "The system of mass incarceration is based on the prison label, not prison time." Learn what barriers people who have paid their debt to society face when they come out of prison and return to their communities. We all have a role to play to promote a more just society, one that is not forever punishing. You too can offer "second chances" to individuals who come out of prison. As one of our podcast guests said, "we are not monsters, we are humans who want to do the right thing and contribute to society." Become and agent of change! Start by educating yourself about the formerly incarcerated and the impact that mass incarceration has on families and communities. The One in Four production team is comprised of enthusiastic and talented individuals: Bea Spadacini, Host, Producer and Writer; Tim Nicholson, Visual Artist and Co-Producer; Michael Balasia, Sound Engineer. • Together We Bake: Women and Re-entry

    08/05/2019 Duración: 33min

In this episode we stay focused on the topic of employment but look at the specific challenges that women face when they come out of prison or jail, which can make landing a job even harder. Over the last 25 years, the number of incarcerated women has increased by more than 700%. Though many more men are in prison than women, the rate of growth for female imprisonment has been twice as high as that of men since 1980. This is primarily the result of stiffer drug sentencing laws and post-conviction barriers to reentry that uniquely affect women.According to the Sentencing Project, more than 60% of women in state prisons have a child under the age of 18. There is also a large number of women, who are mothers, that are locked up in local jails awaiting trial. One of the primary concerns incarcerated mothers have when they complete their sentence is how to reestablish a healthy relationship with their children. In this episode, we will introduce you to Together We Bake (TWB), a small non-profit organization in Ale

In this episode, you will meet Coach Rojas who is a trainer at the American Jobs Center in the Montgomery County Correctional facility in Boyds, Maryland. She works in the pre-release center inside the jail and trains inmates on life and job-readiness skills. You will also meet Lynda who went through this program a few years ago and is slowly getting back on her feet, pursuing her dreams, working and giving back to her community. Please listen, subscribe, and rate/review our Podcast in iTunes (if y
